Obama compares his health care plan to Romney's on '60 Minutes.' "Wasn't that different...."

President Obama sat down with Steve Kroft from 60 Minutes Sunday night to discuss the political earthquake that occurred on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, ObamaCare was discussed as a source of voter discontent. The President acknowledged the political consequences of ramming the government takeover of health care down our throats. However, in a likely preview of what is to come should Mitt Romney win the GOP nomination, he drew comparisons between his health care legislation and the one conceived and enacted by the former Governor of Massachusetts.

Politico reports:

[...]

Obama sought in the interview to explain many of his policy efforts as necessary but unpopular medicine needed to address the sharp economic downturn, but he acknowledged that one major contributor to the “big government Obama” narrative—the health care reform law—was something he could have deferred.

“At the time, we knew that it probably wasn’t great politics,” Obama said. “I made the decision to go ahead and do it and it proved as costly politically, as we expected. Probably actually a little more costly than we expected, politically,” he added.

In a hint of a possible storyline in the upcoming 2012 presidential campaign, Obama said the health care plan he backed was specifically designed to mirror those proposed in the past by Republicans, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, whom Obama suggested is making another bid for the White House.

“We thought that if we shaped a bill that wasn’t that different from bills that had previously been introduced by Republicans, including a Republican Governor in Massachusetts who’s now running for president, we would be able to find some common ground there. And we just couldn’t,” Obama said.

“Does it matter if you’d prefer him over Obama?”

Only if by some misfortune Romney gets nominated. Then it would certainly matter.

People who post “I’d never ever vote for ....” are like spoiled children who say they will hold their breath until they die. Do they really mean that if the election were hypothetically Romney against Hitler they would stay home or vote for a third party? I didn’t like Chris Christie ... too Liberal ... so I supported his primary opponent Steve Lonegan. But when the choice was Christie against Jon Corzine, I took a deep breath and voted for Christie, and it has worked out much better than I ever expected.

Politics is a serious business, and conservatives had better act like adults, or we will lose our country for good to Obama and his communist friends.

The difference is that one was mandated by the federal government and the other was mandated by the state. Big difference. If that's what the people of Assachusetts want, then that's on them. But we can't flee to another state to escape ObamaCare. Read the 10th Amendment!

Good point. And Romney is a businessman who would walk all over Obama in any debate concerning the economy, so Obama’s trying to stick his crap bill onto Romney to deflect from his own incompetence.

Cheers!

Imagine if a governor decided to raise taxes but when he decides to run for president, promises that he only did it because his state wanted it and won’t push for an increase in federal taxes.

To my knowledge RomneyCare is broke and is either seeking or has gotten government funds to keep it afloat.

NUmber one difference. MassCare didn’t effect my health insurance one bit, because I live in a different state. MassCare was inflicted by it’s own citizenry upon themselves, through their own liberal state legislature.

Obamacare was inflicted by mostly liberal senators on the entire country, regardless of whether we supported them or it.

I’m all for allowing each state to try their own way of “fixing” health care, and if a few screw themselves up in the process, we’ll all learn something.
