Forget Palin, Olbermann 2012!

There are few things more savage and bitter than a nomination fight for the Presidency. You have a dozen or so candidates, all of them seeing a future Presidential portrait in the mirror every morning, separated by the most slender of ideological threads, most of them knowing each other for years, contending for the highest office in the world. The first debates, which seem to happen before some of the voters have even been born, resemble the early rounds of American Idol only more harsh.

"Governor Palin, many of your opponents here on stage say you're not informed enough to be president, can you explain to us the whole history of the Korean peninsula? You have 30 seconds and then the other 40 candidates will get 30 seconds each to tell us why you're wrong." Packs of wolves have been observed to be less vicious.

You might think it gets better as it goes along, when the cream rises to the top and the field gets narrowed down. You know, when it gets down to 2 people calmly sitting at a round table with Wolf Blitzer, each seeing a possible Vice President seated across from them. So, you don't remember the Clinton-Obama debates then? Remember when Obama was invited to say something nice about Hillary and with all the warmth he could muster had to admit that she was sort of likable on kind of a theoretical basis, ah, may be? Then again perhaps that's just Obama, he doesn't exactly exude a warm glow.
