What Became of Detroit's "Green Gym"?
The Big Feed ^ | December 23, 2010 | Captain Thurston

Back in January, I posted a report about a gym that was to open in Detroit. The gym was to be for the homeless and those homeless were to generate electricity for the "green industries" surrounding the gym by riding stationary bikes. The idea was to get the bums in shape, get free electricity, and help the environment. You can read the original post here.

It occurred to me this morning to follow up on this grand liberal plan. So I did some searching on Google and I could find essentially no news on this gym, except for a slew of reports that came out when the gym was first announced. As for any evidence of the gym actually operating, or the success of the operation, I found nothing.

That has to be one of the most ignorant business plans I have ever seen. LIBs are mentally unstable and need caged.

Didn't Kramer and Neuman try this with a rickshaw? I don't think that ended up too well either.

The organization responsible for this brain child, Cass Community Social Services, seems to come up with these silly ideas and but never implements them, yet they're still in business, which means they're getting paid to do nothing. To a liberal that's a worker's paradise.

There are still idiots promoting farming in Detroit despite the fact that Michigan is covered with farmland.

After all the big ideas were publicized, someone pointed out that a healthy human can produce about 1/4 hp for extended periods of time, and that’s enough power for a couple lightbulbs. The energy required to produce and prepare the food necessary for the person to ride the bike is more than the power output of the person, so it’s actually anti-green.

But that never stopped a Progressive Great Idea(tm)! So, it probably died because it couldn’t get enough tax dollars from Uncle Sugar to make the right Watermelons rich.

This is typical of Leftist nutcases. They think the homeless are going to jump at a chance to use exercise bikes when they can spend the same time snoozing on the floor or the sidewalk! If they were that industrious they wouldn't be homeless.

Leftists also think people are going to set the clock, get up at dawn, and spend the day working when the government's grauanteed them an income, a place to live, health care, etc., and they can just as easily spend the day at the beach--at the movies--or in the sack.

This is the biggest fallacy of Marx's theories: The only way to get work out of people under conditions like that is at the barrel of a gun. And Marxists have no problem doing just that.

It went the same way as the $950,000 “green house” (that was about the size of and had the styining of a cheap mobile home) they built in Flynt. It was supposed to be totally off the electrical and gas grids and get all it’s heat from solar and wind power. The first time it dropped below 20 degrees all the pipes froze and the place flooded, causing thousands in damages.

What a shame. I thought reviving the early Victorian make-work program, much approved by Ebenezer Scrooge, the treadmill, would be a fitting self-parody on the part of the turn of the 21st century left. It was a scam instead. Sad.

Yes. The Democrat Party motto should be: "Work will set you free."

Wait a minute... Haven't I heard that somewhere before...?
