When Robert E. Lee was forced to turn back and retreat from Pennsylvania ending his dream of winning the Civil War by invading the North it quickly became clear that he had thrown his best punch and failed. Lee almost won but didnt.
While the Confederates won some major battles after Gettysburg their will to fight and the appetite for loaning them money was gone.
Yesterday the Wisconsin Democrats brought their invasion to Republican held State Senate districts. To turn back the tide of conservatism in Wisconsin the Democrats instigated recall elections of six Republican Senators. They almost won enough seats to make a difference but didnt.
They needed to take three seats to wrest control of the States upper chamber from the Republicans, but they failed. Gettysburg has come for Wisconsins Democrats which is fitting since most Confederates were Democrats as well.
Why the Democrats lost
The Democrats lost because they represent a failed system of never ending tax increases to support special interest groups such as public employee unions and illegal aliens. They lost because they support endless extensions to food stamp and unemployment benefits, and do so with an extremely smug sense of entitlement to our money.
They lost because the unions who were behind the recalls willing unmasked themselves as criminals who would use physical violence to maintain their racketeering enterprises.
The Democrats lost because the debt ceiling fix was so bad that its cause and effect to the destruction of the stock market is glowing in neon red.
Wisconsins Democrats met their Gettysburg because the power of free elections is stronger than the strength of voter fraud. They lost because voters looked at the wild mobs of young Blacks beating down peaceful White families at the Wisconsin State Fair..

I completely agree - and in Wisconsin of all places - very good news.
Baraq is toast for 2012.
But we have to replace him with the right person.
If the GOP can manage to get one of the Dem seats, that will add more power to the offensive side. If they can pick up two .....
Gallant bricklayers building a defensive structure to STOP the onslaught of socialism freedom loving Wisconsinites are.
Not saying it wasn’t great - but the end result if 2 republican seats lost, right?
If Republicans pick up one of the DemocRAT held seats up next week, the DemocRATS will have only netted a one seat pick up at enormous cost.
That’s $35 million largely wasted, and which will not be available next year. The Wisconsin GOP, in passing their reforms and suriving this assault has performed astonishingly well; kudos to all for their hard work!
Quite right and the other side has covered their bets in the Republican primary with like minded fellow travelers with little 'r's after their names.
Please leave the Confederacy out of this ;)
Let's hope the democrats do their version of Pickett's charge in 2012........
I just made donations to the two republicans trying to unseat the two dems next week.
This is far bigger than Wisconsin.
I really don’t understand the degree of excitement coming from the GOP.
The ‘rats succeeded in recalling TWO GOP senators. That leaves the pubbies with a razor-thin one-vote margin unless they succeed in recalling at least one ‘rat next week.
Sounds like a precarious situation.
The Dems need only turn ONE pubbie to stop GOP legislation if no further seats are gained.
Plus, Walker will have to stand for a recall in a few months, assuming the ‘rats submit the proper petition. They will. The unions will make damn sure they do. Any bill or election won by Republicans will be litigated or fraud will be alleged. That has already happened.
Sounds like a tough road to hoe, in all truthfulness.
1 of the losses was in a heavily democrat district, so no surprise.
Other loss was a guy who had an affair with a staff member and fled his own district. Not a surprising loss. He almost made it, that was surprising.
The democrats spent a ton of money and energy on this, so while losing two seats doesn’t sound good, it has to be viewed in terms of them blowing lots of resources and not getting what they wanted.
Plus they might lose a seat themselves next week.
Never, never, never forget which political leader went to Wisconsin those months ago when this was all a political mine field and said “Game On”.
Never, never, never forget.
Sarah Palin!
And next week will be their Vicksburg.
Is there any chance of winning one of the seats next week? that would be soooooo nice.
Yes, we lost 2 recall elections & won 4, thereby retaining control of the WI senate, but more importantly this was a massive repudiation of unions spending THIRTY MILLION plus millions more raised by liberal radical groups such as MoveOn.org, all sorts of liberal radical PACs, the state demoRAT machine and the national DNC. It is unprededented to spend THIRTY MILLION dollars for only 6 state Senate races anywhere. Just 4-5 elections ago, $30 million was how much presidential candidates were spending. The two recalls that were lost were Dan Kapanke in LaCrosse, WI, home of liberal UW-LaCrossea and his district has a 60/40 edge of registered demoRATs. Still he only lost 55/45. And the 2nd loss of Randy Hopper was narrow 51/49, and largely had to do with his messy divorce due to a affair he had and thereby left his wife & kids. Very sad.
In the end, the total percentage voting for the Repubs & Gov Walkers agenda was 53/47 in favor of the Repubs, out of nearly 350,000 votes cast. The dems & unions & media (including my blatantly liberal partisan paper in Menomonie WI, the Dunn County News) threw everything they had at the Repubs, outspending them & out advertising by a 5 or 6 to 1 advantage and failed to overturn Gov Walkers agenda or mandate.
Now with lots of prayers, hard work & boots on the ground, we are positioned to win at least 1 if not both of the demturd recall elections next week Tuesday, Aug 16. That would be the sweetest revenge of all, to offset the 2 demturd victories yesterday, with 2 Repub victories next week in the demturd recall elections.
