“They don’t call them patients, they call them units” (Sarah was right, again)

Remember when they laughed off, ridiculed and otherwise denied Sarah Palin’s assertion that Obamacare would usher in death panels?

Listen to this neurosurgeon, fresh from a seminar in Washington DC, tell about what it is that the HHS has in store for seniors:

(AUDIO AT LINK)

The Anchoress calls it what it is. Evil:

So if you are a 70 year-old Nancy Pelosi, or Paul Krugman — with a potent private health insurance plan such as the one enjoyed by Members of Congress and other bureaucrats — you will get every appropriate surgery and treatment applicable.

But if you are a 70 year-old former bookkeeper or waitress on Medicare, well — you have swung your last golfclub or danced your last waltz, because the “ethics panel” that assesses your unithood will have no problem inventing a equation that goes something like, “Potential-Tax-revenues-minus-potential-cost-divided-by-social-and-political-value-equals…a negligible unit.

And you’ll be shuffled off to the room with the big screen full of daffodils and excellent speakers blasting Vivaldi, and made “comfortable.”

Assessing human beings as “units” is Evil. Period, full stop. It is a diabolical disorientation. The only people who do not understand that are people who also have difficulty with that inconvenient old “conscience thing“.

The caller to Levin’s show said he was a neurosurgeon, and of German descent. He mentioned his ancestry at the same time he discussed “units” and admitted he was distressed. The source of his distress was very likely his recognition of a the sort of ruthless efficiency someone in his family once knew first hand, either from one side of the ledger, or the other.

Tell me again that elections don’t matter.

“But if we get to the point where everyone’s end-of-life care outstrips their lifetime contributions to the system, we’ll go belly-up, simple as that.”

And statistically we can probably determine which unborn children will contribute and which won’t - we can use variables like the social and economic class of the parents and economic forecasts for the expected lifespan of the “potential” human. Then we can decide which babies should be allowed to be born and which not. All nice and neat./scary

Having such severe Palinoia after she has decided not to run for president indicates underlying issues. Seek help.

All I did was post fact. Obviously you cannot handle that.

Could be you need to examine your own problem which is denial in the face of reality.

Maybe you are the person who should seek some help.

just sayin’, you know?

So when one reaches 70 will there be even greater “Unit Discounts” in addition to “Senior Discounts?

I hear you...my mother is 92 and going through much the same thing.
I also agree that some fight death to the extreme...I have a relative who subjected her own brother to painful chemotherapy (she had P.O.A.) even though he had stage 4 cancer. As a result he died an excruciating death within days, when he would have been better off with the morphine drip and his family at his side.

Sometimes life is just not that hard...we MAKE it hard. And in the end, death comes to all of us.

And sorry, folks, denial of heart surgery to demented 95 year olds is NOT euthanasia. As distasteful as it is, when you socialize medicine, (which Medicare/Medicaid certainly has), there will be limits.

Even without socialization, there are limits. In the end, SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR THIS. That's what all these "God will decide" folks aren't getting. That and the obvious message that if God has given you dementia and heart failure, He HAS decided. You're the one fighting Him! LOL.... some people are kinda dense.

I play golf with a man that is 84 years old. If you were try and guess his age he looks to be 65-70. He contributes his time to charities and helping others who are less fortunate.

Setting an age of 70 for everyone is BS.

Ah, Mr. Slippery Slope is here to proclaim that if you don't give quadruple by-passes to demented 95 year olds, you'll be smothering babies in no time.

Hey, we can make sure to keep every single solitary soul alive till the last possible minute. All we need is to devote 100% of our resources. Anything less is genocide!

The first step is to dehumanize us, and to name us something other than what we are...Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Sons, and Daughters...when we become something other than family, friends, and humans, we become things, pronouns, and objects. I am not a unit, I am not an item, I am not what I need, I am not what I want, I am not what I was...I am a child of God, and loved by Him, and important in the Eyes of God. I am what I will be.

"And you’ll be shuffled off to the room with the big screen full of daffodils and excellent speakers blasting Vivaldi, and made “comfortable.” "

Not true.

I knew an active full of life alert 93 year old woman. One day she decided to paint her front door before her diner guests arrived. Yes, she was giving a party that night. While painting, she fell and broke her leg, not hip. She died two weeks later.

In the hospital they tortured her by keeping her in the most uncomfortable positions. One time, they even had her upside down. The daughter tried everything to get her mom out of there. Problem was, the doctors changed daily. There was no sole doctor responsible for her. It seemed all doctors experimented on her to suit whatever agenda they were pursuing.

There were no daffodils or Vivaldi for this 93 YO "unit". She was tortured. There was no reason for her to be kept in the hospital just for a leg cast.

I’m one of the dense ones. If lighting strikes my house and it catches fire - am I OK to fight the fire or would that be “fighting Him!”?

Sadly the ones (aborted children)that don't make it are being used to test food for large corporations......Do they use them in our food supply ? I don't know and they wont say yes or no.....

It was Palin that brought the entire matter into focus. Everybody paid attention after that. Nobody else on our side came close to shining the spotlight on the death panels like she did. She took heat for it from the LSM, but in typical Palin fashion, she stayed after ‘em.

Kind of depends... will taxpayers have to pay $2,000,000 to save your $185,000 house?

It’s not a personal decision if other people have to pay for it.

I’m a little confused when you say her daughter tried to get her mother out of there. I didn’t think a hospital could keep you against your will (unless it was a mental hospital.) My friend’s mother also broke her leg and when she said “I want to go home,” her daughter simply informed the doctors that her mother wanted to leave. Oh, they “advised against it” and all that, but she was out of there a couple hours later. The only delay was arranging for a ride back home.

You are assuming you can predict the health future. If
people automatically give up when things look “hopeless”
we wouldn’t have much of what may have kept you or me alive
all these years.
Case in point. Stomach/duodenal ulcers. The old treatment,
rest/milk/antacids/exercise,anticholinergics, and phenobarbital,
, then the H2 blocker, antacids, then added ulcer “coaters”
, then proton pump inhibitors, then antibiotics. I used to see tons of
vagotomies/and perforated gastrointestinal tracts due
to unregulated ulcers. I almost never see it now.

As far as cost is concered, one step forward is to go after
fraud big time, double billing, and those insane regulations
(i mean insane ones) that prevent health practictioners from
actually trying to solve real health problems.
