Yaron Brook is Worried About Executive Orders & Out of Control Government Expansion--03-26-2012

Yaron Brook of the Ayn Rand Institute for Individual Rights sees a troubling pattern of expanding government that causes great injury to individual rights and the ability of our economy to produce products and services that people want. In addition, the damage done by the Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley regulatory schemes has caused immeasurable damage to America and its markets. Companies are now avoiding the US markets as a result.

Therefore, we can never emphasize enough, and we must constantly engage ourselves in the debate of government expansion versus the individual's rights. This issue has been with us since the founding of the Republic, and it has never stayed dormant for so long. Therefore, there is always a need to communicate the message of freedom. The continuing assault can only have one result: totalitarianism and complete subservience to the State. Yaron will be debating David Callahan of the left leaning Demos Institute in Chicago. Conservatives really need to adopt a simple “litmus test” for Republican candidates, that cuts to the heart of the matter.

“The power of the president, in relation to the other two branches of government, has grown almost continually since George Washington, and has for the last several presidents threatened to become an “imperial presidency”.

“Are you willing to work with a Republican congress to *reduce* the power of the office of the president?”

“This would include limiting the authority vested in Presidential Signing Statements, Executive Orders, Presidential Proclamations, the appointment of “Czars” and recess appointments, and the establishment of strict parameters for declarations of executive privilege.

“Likewise to reaffirm the importance of limitations like the War Powers Act, the Posse Comitatus Act, and that all foreign treaties, agreements and understandings must be approved by the US senate.”

Executive orders should be completely gotten rid of. I didn’t like them when GWB was president, I don’t like them now; same with all warrantless searches and wiretaps.
