Robert Taft, seriously? One of the originators of the FDA and the biggest food welfare program of all time, the American Relief Administration. Sure, he opposed the New Deal but that was about all he had going for him.
Robert Taft, the same guy who blamed the US for Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor and opposed us going after Hitler and was on record as saying it didn’t matter if Hitler over-ran Europe because there is an ocean between us.

Oh, also, Robert Taft opposed the Neuremberg trials against the Nazis. He actually thought that Nazi military leaders taking part in wartime actions, should have been tried under civilian rules.
Also, Taft was one of the authors of the 1949 National Housing Act, one of the biggest welfare programs of the time that led to housing projects and turned urban areas from diverse, peaceful areas to centers of crime- all funded by USGov.
