They should turn around and say that gay marriage cannot be promoted too, on those same grounds

Does Norte Dame get ANY financial support from the Catholic Church these days? If so, things have dropped even further than I thought. If not, then they should change the name of the institution.

Another example of Catholic schizophrenia.

It is time to take this to one of the lawyer groups that have been quite successful in defending matters of life and the family. The board members of ND should be sued, based on the school’s premise for becoming an institution of higher learning. It is certainly NOT adhering to those lofty and righteous ideals. It is well past time to take the issue to the public and force debate on the issue.

I know this is an aside, but what kind of name is that? What is it supposed to mean?

Or craven stupidity! Dean Manion, the former Dean of the Notre Dame Law School, and a stalwart Conservative from the middle of the last Century, must be spinning in his grave.
I wonder whether the Dean's son & daughter are still active in the battle to keep Indiana Conservative. Does anyone know?

It's not a few troublemakers. Pro-gay sentiment is rampant in the Catholic Church, especially in the schools and colleges.

The Pope repeatedly breaks Commandments 8,9 & 10. He’s an inspiration for these young Catholics.

How can the pope continue to allow Notre Dame to call itself Catholic?

No, they are separately incorporated, and are financed by students, alumni/corporate donors, and some public funding (onds, student loans), like other private colleges. No direct financial tie (and, unfortunately, no DIRECT governance tie) to the Catholic Church - although if they are notably anti-Catholic, the Bishop can deprive them of the right to put themselves forward as a Catholic institution. In other words, they lose the formal use of the descriptor word Catholic.
And there's no copyright or trademark issues, so that's not even enforceable.
ND has been pushing, pushing, pushing the limit for decades. I do wonder what they could possibly do, at this point, to be considered definitively over the line. Maybe crucify somebody?
We went all over this in 2009 when they decided to give the honorary doctorate to the Obamunist. Besieged "trustees" and "fellows", Bishop of South Bend, head of the CSC's in Rome, etc. etc.
Nada.
A truly ugly, hideous situation. But those who know the history, know that it was basically lost way back in 1967, when most of the Catholic colleges and universities in the U.S. signed the "Land o' Lakes Declaration" asserting their independence from Church governance, and the bishops essentially ran up the white flag and said, "Oh well, it's a new day..."
But there's still a faithful remnant. Thank God for the TFP's. Fr. Norm Weslin, pray for us.

TFP ("Tradition, Family, Property") is a revanchist political/social/religious movement founded in 1960 to push back Marxism in Brazil. (Generally described by their opponents as "fascists".) They now have national arms in, I don't know, maybe a dozen countries.
This would be their American, Student branch.

It's not up to the Pope. It's up to the Bishop of South Bend/Ft. Wayne, IN, the Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades.
Otherwise, see mine at #15.

Are we allowed to say the word “Sodomite” any more? I wonder what the criminal penalty will be?
To: Mrs. Don-o
Thank you for your informative post. I am one of the many befuddled non-Cathloic-but-Christian parents who sent their offspring to an ostensibly Catholic university only to get a facefull of “sex positive”, radical feminism, “sexiling” in the co-ed dorms and related offenses to conscience. Saddened by the perceived bait-and-switch.
