Actually, if I start to get a throat, I start immediately to gargle thoroughly with warm salt water, maybe 1/2 tsp in 4 oz water, and use it all. It is the most helpful and least damaging to your innards, and almost every internist recommends it. If tomato soup doesn't cause the gemeral condition feel like it's getting better (and it ought to), I tell my MD to prescribe one Zithromax pack. We have found it works for me, and quickly.

Unless you have been confirmed to have a bacterial infection, and the bacterial species is identified, it is not a good idea to take antibiotic. Antibiotic resistant bacteria are becoming a huge problem because of overuse of antibiotics.

Most sore throats will clear up on their own. If you have sore throat and fever, it could be bacterial (but it isn’t always).
