Catholic Theologians Protest ‘Deep-Seated Racism’ Of US, Compare Eric Garner To Christ

A "statement of commitment to racial justice."

More than 400 Catholic theologians signed a statement protesting the “deep-seated racism” of the US and compared Eric Garner to Jesus Christ.

Written by St. Louis University Professor of Theological Ethics Dr. Tobias Winright, it is called a “statement of commitment to racial justice.”

What prompted the writing of the statement was the killing of blacks by police officers. The statement reads:

The killings of Black [sic] men, women and children—including but not limited to Rekia Boyd, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, John Crawford, 7 year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones and 12 year-old Tamir Rice—by White [sic] policemen, and the failures of the grand jury process to indict some of the police officers involved, brought to our attention not only problems in law enforcement today, but also deeper racial injustice in our nation, our communities, and even our churches.

I don’t recall Jesus resisting arrest, among many other differences.

Worse. They're paying the jizyah to Obola and his Muslim constituency.

They are permitted not to be taxed into oblivion, in exchange for their vocal support of the Marxist/Muslim takeover.

‘Muslims Are Right to Be Angry’: Prominent Catholic Leader Accuses Charlie Hebdo of Provoking Deadly Terror Attack
Jan. 7, 2015 3:18pm Billy Hallowell

The president of the Catholic League said the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo “provoked” Wednesday’s deadly attack with its mocking cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

In a statement titled, “Muslims Are Right to Be Angry,” Bill Donohue condemned the killings, but also said Charlie Hebdo’s “intolerance” of religious figures is what prompted the attack. Twelve people were killed after masked gunmen stormed the publication’s offices in Paris.

“Killing in response to insult, no matter how gross, must be unequivocally condemned. That is why what happened in Paris cannot be tolerated,” the statement opened. “But neither should we tolerate the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction.”

I don’t want to see it but descriptions of some of the vile depictions of the Virgin Mary are enough to make me want to hurt somebody. He has to view that stuff. Its his job. I saw him on EWTN.

Anyone have a list of the people who signed? My guess is that they are largely left wing nuts who believe in something not even remotely similar to the Catholic Church.

Catholic profs compare Eric Garner to Christ

Peter Hasson Texas Campus Correspondent @peterjhasson on Jan 05, 2015 at 2:52 PM EDT

More than 400 Catholic theologians signed a “statement of commitment to racial justice.”

The majority of the signees are faculty members from a variety of institutions, including Harvard University, Georgetown University, and Mount St. Mary’s University. Boston College leads all other institutions, with almost 20 faculty members counted among the signees.

Dr. Cynthia Nielsen, an adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of Dallas who signed her own name to the statement, told Campus Reform that she believes “it is important to address issues such as racism in the classroom.”

The “problem of mass incarceration,” Nielsen said, and how it “impacts poor, African American communities” played a large role in her decision to sign the statement. Nelson lamented that many African-American inmates, especially those who may have changed their lives for the better while in prison, “are viewed through a racialized lens constructing them as ‘dangerous criminals.’”

Furthermore, Nielson said she believes that the American “bishops’ statements on race and racism at times…neglect the structural aspects of racism and racialized practices.”

Charles Curran, a professor of human values at Southern Methodist University and signee of the statement, has long been out of favor with the Catholic Church. After Curran repeatedly challenged Church teachings on many subjects, including abortion and contraception, the Vatican declared Curran unfit to teach theology at a Catholic school in 1986, ending his teaching at the the Catholic University of America.

Another controversial theologian who has signed the statement is Marquette professor Dan Maguire, an ex-priest. Despite teaching theology at a Catholic university, Maguire has been described by colleagues as “ a virtual atheist.”

Maguire, who the Cardinal Newman Society labeled “ a stridently pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage activist”, has been banned from speaking at Milwaukee parishes.

The group of Catholic theologians also demanded that the U.S. Justice Department commence “investigations of the Ferguson Police Department, the New York Police Department, and other police forces involved in the killings of unarmed Black citizens.”

At time of publication, 442 theologians had signed their names to the statement.

Sorry to hear about the 20 from Boston College. I hope my hero Peter Kreeft is not among them.

Well, the final sentence says it all. One of the ‘theologians’ is really an ex-priest who is now an atheist.

When I first saw the headline, my instinct said to me, “I wonder if these so-called theologians are primarily the intellectuals from universities.” Very good instinct.

Yet another reason to have no use for the Catholic “church.”
