Talk about crying over spilled milk. Authorities said an overturned tractor trailer spilled up to 6,000 gallons of milk onto a highway in Mt. Airy, Md., causing hours of delays on Wednesday morning.
The incident happened about 6 a.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 70. Milk spilled and at one point blocked all four lanes on the eastbound side. As of mid-morning, some of the lanes were getting by but traffic was reported to be heavy in the area.
No one suffered major injuries.

Maryland “Freak State” DANG!
“...Crews from police and fire departments, along with a HAZMAT group, are on the scene, officials said.
...between 4,000 and 6,000 gallons of milk in a tractor trailer spilled onto the highway. Crews were trying to sop up the milk with dirt and then were expected to use a front end loader to haul away the mess....”

A tanker load of milk is not much liquid and, unless there is something I don’t know, would VERY quickly simply soak into the ground without posing a health hazard. They could have uprighted the tractor trailer and have been done with it IMHO.
“a HAZMAT group.”...which was there to keep the crowds from being TRIGGERED should the milk SOUR on the pavement....
Yeah, that’s gonna stink in a couple days...
Thanks Meshuge! I should have thought of the need to set up safe spaces and provide for trigger warnings.
Things evolve as in the novel Fahrenheit 451 where the Fire Departments no longer put out fires but, instead, were charged with book burnings.
They couldn't just drive through the milk? Surely after a few minutes it was no more than wet pavement, such as that caused by rain. Only white.
If it was straight from the dairy farm it could be full of thick butterfat and quite slippery, but it would still be biodegradable and the eathworms on the side of the road would take care of it shortly.
I remember when a truck spilled peanut butter on a highway in St. Louis, now that was hard to clean up and the spot looked greasy for a while.
the very word CURDLED...can be more than some can handle
MAybe they needed practice in case something really nasty gets spilled...
Meanwhile the neighborhood stray cats are howling “Noooo! Don’t dump dirt on it and haul it away! Just block traffic for a bit and we’ll be glad to help clean up!”
I’m sure it would smell rancid after a while and attract flies, but just wait for a rain.
Give everyone around straw and some Oreo cookies
Have it cleaned up right away.......
