Relax.
If one theme is constant among conservative #NeverTrumpers, its that Donald Trump is not really a conservative. People cite his past support for things like single-payer health care and abortion rights, as well as his fondness for eminent domain which hes used to his advantage as a real estate developer.
People like me counter by citing his current policy proposals cutting taxes, replacing ObamaCare with market-based health care mechanisms, unleashing domestic energy as evidence that his current thinking is much more in line with conservatives than his thinking of the past.
agree with this 1000%
Trump is registered Republican, but Trump is American, First, and foremost and if you read any of his books, this is what you see...He loves America, he loves the ‘working class people’ because he is one of them...
GO.TRUMP.GO!!! ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!
If Hillary is elected president, America will need a lot more body bags for terrorist victims.
Trump is going to win by a landslide now.
Trump is a pragmatist. That is what we need in government, not ideologues.
If a program is proposed by an ideologue, all ideologues of the same mindset will vote for it, even if not a single provision of the program is likely to achieve the program’s goals. And when the program does not work for its stated purpose, the ideologues keep expanding it and throwing more money at it to try to brute force it to work.
A pragmatist, OTOH, sees the program isn’t working and stops it. He’s smart enough to see that throwing good money after bad is a big waste.
For the most part, conservatism and pragmatism have a lot in common. So it makes sense for pragmatic Trump to run as a conservative.
That is a hugely bad thing. Just look at the years of betrayal by liberal republicans which is exactly why the base is PISSED! Betrayal after betrayal from Bush I on, which led to a one term president and a two term liberal because that liberal ended up with a very conservative congress in two years.
The only long term winners Republicans have are conservatives. The rest just send us down the drain a little slower. Even if Trump keeps his words on illegals and muslims when he has already backed down on so many other of his stump promises he still sinks us further into socialism.
The scary thing is that this pissed off base is expecting Trump to actually return America back from liberalism. It is not going to happen and once again the right is betrayed which takes longer to recover from. Trump will win and probably in a landslide but the people will not get what they want from him and that is a massive disaster.....unless they are distracted by war and patriotism because like Bush II he will deal with 24/7 propaganda against him and a betrayed base. This is a future massive loss for republicans.
It's absolutely true that Trump is not a movement conservative ideologue nor is he an economic libertarian. On the either hand, the policies and views of Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain, and Romney were even further away from economic libertarianism and various tenets of conservative ideology, and I don't remember establishment Republicans demanding ideological purity from any of these or refusing the endorse them.
Trump's lack of ideological purity just provides cover for the Romneys, Bushes, and Kristols to attack him for their real reason: the fact that Trump was the voter's choice rather than the Party's.
Ideology don’t feed the bulldog, as Cruzers learned much to their dismay.
We need a pragmatic problem-solver deal-maker who can get things done.
When is the Trump rally today.
Me too. Much rather have pragmatic doer than an ideologue no matter what type.
Mr. Trump is running on a platform that’s more conservative than Reagan himself in 1980, and you’re still squealing?
The heck is wrong with you?
