Do We Really Respect Diversity of Thought?
The Coach's Team ^ | 3/21/17 | Dottie Perkins

A major issue of concern in today’s world involves the effect liberals have when they demand everyone conform to their opinions. As a teenager, in my particular social circle there exists rather a diverse world of ideas about politics, religion and countless other “socially inappropriate” subjects of discussion. And regardless of the particular opinions offered by my peers on these issues, I often observe how willingly people change their viewpoints in order to avoid being harshly judged for holding a less than popular—that is, less than acceptable-- belief.

Growing up in such an environment has become a major source of concern for me because it means freedom of speech has been revoked by those who worship only that which is “politically correct.” Yet certainly we should be permitted to present our beliefs in a respectful manner, without having to conform or hide our true opinions.

In school, I have become very interested in my psychology class. In this course, as the name would suggest, we study how humans behave and develop in certain environments. Recently, we studied the effects of conformity on social relations. In group situations, it is a common human inclination to conform to social influence by the use of certain clues and gestures to determine our future responses within the group. This, combined with the politically correct nature of my age group, is a dangerous combination. Ironically, by keeping the conversation non-confrontational (and less intellectually stimulating), we never arrive at a proper conclusion of the topic at hand. Instead, the social vibe of the group is top priority, leaving the leader of the group completely in control of the group’s opinion. This is a major concern of mine, thanks especially to the political views I know to be held by...

No, we don’t respect diversity of thought.

I freely admit this.

I do not respect a diversity of opinions on what the Constitution means, I do not respect a diversity of opinions on how I should live my life, I do not respect a diversity of opinions on how I should worship, and etc.

I respect the pursuit of truth.

I agree.

I’m also a believer in racial diversity, but cultural diversity is poison.

Go over to DU & you’ll soon see how much Democrats do NOT
respect us. In fact, you’ll be banned toot sweet from that
obscene, vulgar site. - FR is different. Every other word is
not the “F” word. A Communist DU’er “can” write his silly
opinion. IF he can stand being lambasted, he can stay on FR.

Libs don’t tolerate individual thought. FR people are very
tolerant; but very direct. *Snowflakes don’t last on FR.
They self-ban.

It depends on the subject, however, the left not only disrespects diversity of thought they violently reject it. Whereas the right just dismisses it, peacefully.

There is no diversity of thought. Diversity is defined as the state of being diverse; variety, a range of different things.

The freedom of thought, probably our only real right, cannot be confined to only what other people demand we think. That erases its diversity. This is why when anyone, and for many purposes liberals, calls diversity in what they are doing, it is a lie predicated on accomplishing a goal rather than passing a thought or an effort to further all. For them, it is not about the gains of the receiver, it is about the gains of the deliverer. And too many times, the loss of the receiver.

What you described is one of the reasons I haven’t gone on Twitter for any great amount of time. I just don’t need the aggravation and gratuitous demonizing. For some anti-GOP type posters, you can explain the logic of your beliefs till you are digitally blue in the face, and still, they won’t allow themselves to process the thoughts from your perspective.
That would require too much actual thinking.

On the topic of lack of diversity and those related things - Whats with president Trump threatening the freedom caucus over this turd of health care bill - I know Jim Robinson posted on this maybe a week ago and he was quite anti.

Perhaps its me but the lack of discussion on this is troubling - do we all not want to talk about how this is not what we want president Trump to do.

Or do we there is so much fake news its tough to know. I trust Jim Robinson and he says its a stinker and it does appear to be.

I know lots of us here love president Trump - is this silence I'm perceiving here on FR us just not want to admit this isn't what we voted for?

If so we need to stop that at once - We are on America's team - I like president Trump as he is on America's team. This socialist crap is not America. America First, remember- even if president Trump takes a lump - he can handle it.

I hope folks aren't worried about voicing opposition or support of this because they think they taking either president Trump's or Jim Robinson's side.

I'm not down to being president Trump's amen choir and I pretty sure most of you know I drank the kool-aid early on. Don't want to be a concern Troll but I don't want to see healthy debate over what looks to be a turd not happen either.

I do not agree she is wise beyond her years. She is on the right track but still needs to read and experience a lot more.

This is bothersome - We must remember to respect others by listening to all views. Otherwise, we too will be guilty of dominating and controlling the conversation. By listening to and encouraging the presentation of all viewpoints, we will eventually create a positive change and be of benefit to all by our example.

Really? The viewpoint that the National Socialist held that there were certain segments of society that need to eliminated - that is a valid viewpoint? Clitoralcastration - that is a valid viewpoint? What BLM wants - to assassinate police - that is a valid viewpoint? No young lady - there are some views that are not worthy of discussion and while maybe shut down, should be raised up to the point of ridicule. She sounds like O'Reilly whom Ann Coulter once said that if he was around during the Jewish uprising in Warsaw (1943), he would want to hear the Nazi's point of view.

Come back and talk to us in a few years after you have experience and read more of life and history.

In a simple answer:
No, we do not.

Why does it matter?
You cannot change the skin you got, for another one.
You cannot change the tongue you got, for another one.
You darn sure can’t change the brain you got, for another one.
(barring restorative medical work after someone else with a different idea of ‘diversity’ blows a part of ‘your’ brain away.)
