Somewhat coincidentally, I'm listening to Bach's The Art of Fugue played by the Emerson Quartet right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o5r5G1ScEc

J. S. Bach is the best.

A friend did a saxophone quartet arrangement of Toccata and Fugue in D minor as part of his Senior Recital. The setting was a church, with organ pipes in the background. Pretty cool.

One day, Bach and his crew were sitting around jamming to a few trio-sonatas and the G-string on the lead chair violin broke. A replacement couldn’t be found anywhere.

Bach, who was well known for his large and fancy wigs, whipped his off, and fashioned up a string out of the hairs.

Thus, they used Bach’s Hair for the G-String.

(It’s funnier if you say it out loud. I DEMAND you Say it out loud...do it! Do it now!)

Off topic question for the horn experts prompted by this song which I heard on the radio this morning:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_ge8IUc0nnk

What do you think of the sax solo?

It struck me as exceptionally good playing but I’m not a horn guy and don’t totally trust my ear.

The player is Frank Valdez.

This is what I’m listening to right now—not as sublime as Bach but certainly a genius: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So8F3QToniI

Slowest version of ‘Cherokee’ I’ve ever heard. That’s decent playing. I wouldn’t say exceptional. I was mostly a tenor player, but it is fun to wail on an alto once in a while.

And now this (Tannhäuser Overture): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRmCEGHt-Qk

I like to play beautiful music on youtube or whatever as I do FR or other internet stuff.

One of my all-time favorites!

Trivia: Was quoted briefly in the animated film “Yellow Submarine”.

Wow, so just decent? Just shows what I know about jazz. How does he come up short, and can you recommend a better performance of the song?

BTW, the player’s name is actually Mark Friedman. The guy I mentioned earlier was the drummer.

Yeah, the guy’s a good player. ‘Cherokee’ is usually a song played at maximum speed, to weed people out. More on this in a moment.

Here you go.Yes, it's Bill Cosby, but it's one of the funniest things ever.

Sonny Stitt, total lizard of a player. My stupid girlfriend always said, 'Sonny's what'?
