In case you needed more proof that dogs are some of the most loyal, loving creatures on the planet, here you go.

Actor and filmmaker Easton Dufur used to have two yellow Labradors — Cookie and Stitch.

The dogs had always shared one food bowl, Easton said in a statement posted on Twitter.

My dog Stitch trained my other dog Cookie to only eat half the food that’s in the bowl. So ever since she was young she knew to leave half the food so Stitch can have some (he liked to make sure she would eat,)” Easton wrote.

Aww...that makes me cry

Love the dogs that are, and have been, in our lives.

If I died at Home while my Wife was at work, my Dog would have a Feast.

She is as dumb as a Box of Barbara Boxers, but when it comes to Food she has it all figured out.

Typical Old People’s Dog, spoiled rotten. LOL

That’s a touching story, but it would have been nice if each dog could have been given their own food dish. Each Dog and Owner family is different, and will operate by their own rules. Maybe there were other reasons he feed them this way.

Related cat story. We’ve got an old girl tortie 11 years and a younger tabby male 4 years. He generally likes to surprise and attack her when she doesn’t expect it. They’ll both go to the food bowl together and he’ll lie down next to bowl waiting for her to finish, then he’ll eat. Amazing male chivalry, even in kitties.

Its not chivalry, its hierarchy.

That’s a touching story. It’s amazing that the dog would leave half the food for the other. Most dogs would inhale the whole thing. Dogs are special.

Dog leaves half of her food for companion who died

Did the dog's companion have the courtesy to eat it?

my dog benny always makes sure that my other dog Juno gets her share of soft dog food. Juno is old with few teeth and benny a young dog will only eat half of the food when it is soft...he knows she cant eat the crunchy stuff that is left out all day long while the soft stuff is given twice a day and benny a fast eater wont try to steal from her bowl though any other dog is fair game as far as he is concerned.

A dog should never have its own food bowl. As small as it is it becomes territory and leads to biting people and fighting new dogs brought in to the house. The dog should always understand that its eating out of your bowl with your permission. Huge difference in the mind of a dog and a serious issue if the dog is bigger than bait.

One of the things we did with our dog as a pup was take the dish away while it was eating for a moment. Get him to sit, then put it down again. Just to let them know who is boss.

Now that he’s 85 pounds I’ll goof with him, get on the floor and butt my head in there to pretend I’m eating his food. Then I back off a few inches and let him eat a bit, then I move in and he backs off. Then I give him a big pat on the head and tell him what a good dog he is!

Back in the dim and distant past, when I had a bunch [7] of rescue dogs, consisting of Ibizan Hounds, Dobermanns and one Pibble, I tried “free feeding”.

There was one large pan of dog food, always available.

Throughout the day, each dog would wander over, eat a bit and go do something else.

Never had any aggression, possession or issues and I’ve never had such a pack of perfect-weight dogs, before or since.

Never had to worry about bloat, over-eating or blood sugar lows...nothing.

It was bliss and blissiosity.

They were also the longest-lived dogs I’ve ever had.

Never noticed any “heirarchy” stuff, either.

No pattern, rhyme or reason for their eating order.

Everyone simply ate a bit whenever they felt peckish, never the same ‘order’ twice and apparently, the knowledge that food would always be there affected their temperaments.

The most serene pack I’ve ever had.
