I know people who raise goats and they say they are easier.
But I don’t recall mentioning them needing to deworm them a lot.

They are wrong. I’m a licensed DVM and have raised and treated goats and cattle for a few decades. Goats are far more labor intensive, expensive to treat, more difficult to fence, and not as hardy as cattle. Goats are also more subject to predation. Their best quality is they eat brush and serve well to keep it under control. I’ve seen parasites wipe out a third of a sizeable herd.
Tha fainting goat is a meat breed but you need to find someone specifically breeding for that. Some people are breeding them to be small, cute pets. Much easier to fence in than most goats due to their leg stiffness condition. Kikos are big and can be a bit on the wild side. The breed was created by mixing domestic goats with wild goats. Boer was created in dry Africa and so they have parasite and hoof problems in most of the US. High maintenance. Spanish meat goats are another breed of meat goat. I think it’s the biggest breed for the commercial growers.

I AM waiting (impatiently!) for my Holstein/Black Angus Steer to show up from the neighbors. Now THAT is some good eating...when all is said and done and he’s in my freezer in nice, neat, little packages.

My 16-year old daughter raises and shows English Angora Rabbits. They are amazing little creatures! She spins their wool and knits. She wants pygora goats and alpacas now. We have the land but don’t have adequate fencing but are working on it. Softest yarn ever! You can see hers at www.elementaryhomestead.com if you want! We don’t keep it updated but their are some cute pictures.
