Up to 200 killed as tunnel caves in at North Korea’s nuclear test site

President Donald Trump has an action-packed trip to Asia slated to begin Sunday, starting in Japan before heading to South Korea and China, then Vietnam and the Philippines.

Ahead of this international tour, two U.S. strategic B-1B bombers conducted drills over South Korea. North Korea was quick to condemn that action.

News of the drills was first reported by North Korean state news agency KCNA on Friday, which said the exercises involving South Korean and Japanese fighter jets were a “surprise nuclear strike drill”.

“The reality clearly shows that the gangster-like U.S. imperialists are the very one who is aggravating the situation of the Korean peninsula and seeking to ignite a nuclear war,” KCNA said.

However, strategic bombers may be the least of North Korea’s worries. Legal Insurrection readers may recall my report that a number of Chinese geologists were becoming concerned that the mountain under which the rogue nation was conducting its tests was becoming dangerously unstable.

There are reports that a tunnel associated with that test site has caved-in, which may be the first phase of more complete collapse.

Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi said around 100 people were trapped when the unfinished tunnel caved in at the Punggye-ri site, which lies south of the Mantapsan mountain, 50 miles from the border with China.

When he’s in Vietnam I hope he gets the full story on McCain.

I wonder if the tunnel had a little “help”.

I bet all of their nuclear intelligence and all of their nuclear materials were under the mountain.

“I wonder if the tunnel had a little “help”.”

The Chinese have been briefing every North Korean official they can that the entire facility is in danger of collapse. A full collapse of the site would spread radioactive debris across the border in China. The tunnels are at least two miles deep. That’s a lot of volume. It is doubtful China would help a collapse happen. It is doubly doubtful that America would, either, given that fallout knows no borders.

Would an internal collapse without any openings to the outside air release radioactive material? If a tunnel or two that is two miles deep collapses...? I am asking, as I really don’t know.

“Would an internal collapse without any openings to the outside air release radioactive material?”

I would imagine from the near hysterical acts of the Chinese that the entire area is like crazed glass. Picture that you have a bag full of rocks and bang them with a hammer. The rocks break, but the bag holds them in. A major collapse would almost certainly cause the radioactive material now trapped to be blown high into the sky. Picture an entire, hollow mountain collapsing. The air and all the dust would fly upwards and prevailing winds would, apparently, blow it over China. Fat Boy (the MK leader)has tacitly acknowledged the Chinese concern by stating that the next H-bomb test would likely be held over the Pacific. If that’s the case, you have to wonder why they had two hundred people working in the tunnel. But, communist organizations are driven by the need to keep people busy and employed, not to make a profit.

Too bad the poor workers weren’t doing things like growing food and building homes. They are just little chess pieces for a monster.

Just an observation: Mattis was in the DMZ and South Korea for a few days, then shortly after he left, the tunnel collapsed. Coincidence? Now, Trump will be visiting the same place. I wonder what will happen shortly after he leaves. 😈

They explode nuclear weapons repeatedly under a mountain and then seem amazed that they have fractured the rock, destabilizing the entire mountain leading to a likely collapse. They’ve already killed some 100 to 200 workers through shear stupidity.

Two miles deep or not fissures will allow the radiation to vent to the surface. With a collapse it could create huge fissures that could be quite problematic.

Out at our Nevada Test Site we had several underground tests that vented. There were a couple where the radiation and gases migrated horizontally for a distance before finding fissures that led to the surface.

Let us hope this causes the Chinese to get serious about combating the evil NKorea regime.

Thanks for the link. I wish I understood Mandarin and I’d have enjoyed it even more. The finale where he rides off on a pig is especially funny!
