Alabama’s recent hotly contested special U.S. Senate election was marred by considerable ballot confusion caused by the state’s straight party voting ballot which allowed voters two ways to vote for the two candidates. The election which Democrat Doug Jones won by 22,000 votes is still under the shadow of a possible recount request from his Republican opponent Roy Moore.

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a civil rights group overseeing the election, said 300 voters had “contacted them to report a range of difficulties” through “a voter protection hotline throughout the day” as of early Tuesday evening including confusion over the ballot design.

Kristen Clarke, the president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee, said “voters were … confused about ‘straight ticket’ voting” reference on the ballot “that lets people choose all the candidates from a single party by simply checking one box. According to Clarke, voters wanted to know what would happen if they checked the box for one party, but then also wanted to vote for another party’s candidate in one race.”

The special election ballot design was especially confusing in this election as there was only one partisan race on the ballot. This gave voters two ways to support their candidate in the contest. On top of the ballot was a straight party preference ballot option for the two major parties and right under it were the names of the two U.S. Senate candidates with their party labels plus a write-in option.

McConnell’s Senate is blocking Trump’s nominees now.

Moore is fighting harder to win the election after he lost than he did during the campaign.

No, he's not. Trump has had more judges approved to the appellate courts in his first year than any President in history (12).

McConnell and the establishment know they can't screw the base on the issue.

BS. He spent 10-1 and most prominent Republicans openly denounced him. No one would have won under those circumstances.

Stop making excuses for the establishment. You're the one spinning nonesense.

Still upset if rumor about a precinct with 1100 registered voters turned in 26,000 votes .

exactly.

just. stop.

look, if the law calls for a recount if he can afford it, then do it.

but I think this ship has sailed.

Well, given that both the paper ballots and the digital images were destroyed or are being destroyed what are the chances of a recount? Zero. Just exactly the way the Media-Democrat-Republican Uniparty wants it. Again, why even vote if the outcome is fixed?

“He’s not going to pick up 21,000 votes.”.......

Perhaps if they allowed him to eliminate all the dead people votes, illegals immigrant votes and the out of state votes, he could then add the military votes and still win.

What a shame the ONE THING that used to be sacred was WE, as honest citizens had the right to pick those who would represent us........NOT anymore, the demodummie mafia does it for us.

Where did you say that “sane world” might be, I’d like to move there.

Presidential election..........
1,318,255 62.1% .. Trump
  729,547 34.4 .. Clinton
Now where did those 500,000+ voters go? You reckon they
went with Moore to see the Army/Navy game?

Not true. The paper ballots are retained. The digital images of the paper ballots are not retained.

Go after the voter fraud!

In final-hour order, court rules that Alabama can destroy digital voting records.

...HOW CONVENIENT!!

Ya just can't make this stuff up. We are living in a time when common sense is scorned and corruption is applauded. Heaven help us!!

[We are living in a time when common sense is scorned]

Especially since 2008........

My jaw dropped at all the morons swooning over the obvious fraud and antichrist spirit Barack Hussein Obama. It was very bizarre to see in real-time. It was like the insane fervor for Adolph Hitler.

Roy didn’t GOTV. End of the day there is no one or blame but cannon and Moore for failing to execute.

Cognitive dissonance.

Having the entire Republican party treat him as if he was a "child molesting rapist" pretty much destroyed his GOTV. Alabama's other senator, Richard Shelby, got on television and urged everyone to either write in someone else's name, or vote for Doug Jones.

And you think Moore was the problem? He won election in 2012 with over 1 million votes!
