any e-filing tax gurus there? Looking for a simple way to file

Howdy, FR experts... I would like to e-file my federal taxes. (I qualify.) This is my first time doing this. I went to the IRS site, selected one of the free options, and started the process. It is using the "interview" method and asking me questions about every number I enter.

I have already completed the tax form on my computer. I would like to simply enter my numbers on a virtual tax form and file. Are there any simple options like that, or is every site going to ask me (for example) to enter the name and date of each charitable contribution?

Thanks.

Have no life.

Filing taxes is easy if you’ve got no life.

TaxAct is excellent, simple and insures its accuracy to $100,000.

If you’re filing a short form 1040 EZ then disregard and ignore mortgage interest, charitable contributions, medical expenses and so on.

You’re just taking the standard deduction anyway.

I’ve been using Turbo Tax for a number of years. Takes me about 30 minutes to e-file from start to finish.

I have been using Turbo Tax for the past fifteen years or so. E-file is easy.

TaxAct makes you pay if you itemize. Should be able to file for free IMO. But thanks anyway.

Do you qualify to file a 1040EZ https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040ez—2017.pdf ?

If you file a 1040 and do not itemize, just accept the standard deduction. However, you may leave money with the IRS.

IRS paper on itemizing or standard deduction:

Should have included: I’m filing 1040 and Schedule A. Income (unfortunately) under 66K this year, so I don’t get to use the fillable forms e-file option.

I used Turbo Tax for years, then they had a problem several years ago and I switched to H&R Block. Good program, easy to use, doesn’t ask unneeded questions.

I’m all filed for 2017, just waiting on a 1099 and I’ll be done.

I’ve been using Turbo Tax Free without a problem for the last five years or so. This year’s filing was extremely easy and I don’t believe that they asked as many questions as in previous years.

Per H&R Block, I am six weeks too old to use their free filing option.

WTF does a person's age have to do with filing taxes??

TurboTax. I think federal is free and state is cheap. They remember your info so in subsequent years they auto fill many of the lines from data they already have.

Ok, so you are further along in the process than I thought.

Take a look at this IRS page:

Definitely Turbotax with efile. Super simple and cheap, about $40 and at the end, before you hit send to send it off to the IRS, a little bar comes up to tell you the chance that you will be audited. Mine usually says I have a .8% chance of being audited. haha. I love it. Never even audited.

I used TaxAct for many years. Starting last year I used CreditKarma’s service; no fees for filing a return - for state or Federal..

The ‘simplest method’ is to not file at all.

They’ll come and get it..................

My husband has been doing this for years.

Forget which program he uses to set it up, but definitely would have to ask him how he puts it into the feds’ hands.

Does the new tax law have any effect on filing for 2017 taxes, e.g. itemizing vs not?
