There won’t be any peace in Syria as long as Erdogan has his forces there.....and since he’s too invested now he’s not going to back down...He wants to put his own people in power in Syria if there’s any way he can obtain that.

The Syrian war could not exist without the Turkey/Syrian border ....and Turkey is ‘still’ supplying Alqueda with weapons, just as he let Isis and the other terrorists pass through his borders..... who are now fighting with Erdogans troops and doing joint attacks and patrols together against ‘Afrin” and the KURDS.....

Yes, indeed. I saw quite a bit of that extremely incorrect reporting from Reuters too recently. Right out of the Erdogan Propaganda Agency.

I agree with your assessment on all points, except that I think it might be possible for Turkey to annex some territory in a final settlement.

Despite that possible reservation, I think your assessment of no peace while Turkey remains is more likely, especially in Afrin. It would likely require an epic genocidal ethnic cleansing to enable Turkey to fully pacify Afrin.

Erdogan has chosen to do this ‘AS’ a NATO member.......this is the reason why NOBODY wanted Turkey directly involved when the push against ISIS first began. Everybody said No and Erdogan was beyond pee-oed......so here we are with this beast ‘invading’ in a war he was told clearly to stay out of.

Erdogan has Europe by the gonads....we knew merkels deals to support the

refugees in 'his' country would build to the thousands within those camps,

and any ISIS embedded with them......now he threatens to let them loose on Europe

if they interfer with his attacks on Kurds and plans for Syria.

Erdogans bombs drive families into caves....families have been prevented from leaving the area by local authorities...A young girl went into hiding with her mother and her brothers after her father was killed.

.....”When I see pics like this I realize how very lucky I have been”......

Our nation has really no clue just how blessed and protected we are we have thus far escaped active war on our land. I truly can not imagaine what these people face..such uncertainty if they’ll live or die.

In Kobane, the hand of the Turks was hidden behind jihadi surrogates.

In Afrin the Turks are exposed for the world to see. This is a much weaker position for Turkey strategically, and they are bleeding their credibility in the International arena.

But Turkey’s overt involvement requires more of a hidden hand to deal with, because the geostrategic stakes are so high, when dealing with Turkey itself - NATO itself, NATO’s second largest military, the regional air and logistics hub of Incirlik Air Base, the world’s tenth largest economy, the emerging new “Mothership” of Sunni jihadism, the bulk of the refugees from Syria, land pipeline routes between the Mid-East and Europe, etc..

This requires a careful strategy, for a strategic victory. We can’t responsibly just grab a weapon and run toward the sound of the guns, without preparing for the secondary and tertiary reactions. Getting the USA into an alliance wrecking conflict with Turkey, may well have been the hope of Russian strategists, when they invited Turkey to invade Afrin, by withdrawing their forces, opening the airspace, and likely directly communicating their permission.

Turkey’s poor progress invading into Afrin gives some time for a strategic response. The case is making itself in Capitals around the world, that Turkey has gone off the rails under Erdogan.

People are seriously looking at suspending major weapons programs with Turkey, like the F-35 fighter jet, and the German Leopard tank upgrade. Alternatives to Incirlik are being explored (and to some degree, developed). Political consensus is growing, which would be necessary for major actions later, like suspending NATO membership, placing economic sanctions, or approving covert actions.

Turkey’s invasion into Afrin is crude and blunt. His overt use of jihadi war criminals could be Erdogan’s hubris, that ultimately invites his nemesis.

I don't usually post photos of kids ....but these are the Kurds, modern people... and have been 'the tip of the spear' that helped us defeat ISIS...now they're under attack by Erdogan .....this photo struck as this child looks at this an laying before him...with is little face bloodied.....the images he will and has seen will be burned into his mind......The Kurds have never once invaded Turkey...Erdogan has no right whatsoever to be attacking them.

Terrified Kurdish children have run to shelters in caves

among rugged mountains for safety from Erdogan's invasion. many of their

family members fought against ISIS as the 'tip of the spear'

that we rallied around just two years ago........

This breaks my heart as the Kurds have been in the very forefront of the war we’ve been fighting against ISIS......we owe them a huge debt as they have always been faithful to our troops and loyal in every way.....without them we would not have faired even remotely close to the vcitories won.....
