Another Super Bowl Another Chance to Hate and Eat
MOTUS A.D. ^ | 2-4-18 | MOTUS

Here we are, Super Bowl Sunday. I have only watched 2 playoff games all year but I most assuredly will be watching the Super Bowl because, unlike some 84% of my fellow Americans, I’m a New England Patriots fan. Worse, for many of you, a Tom Brady fan. Been one since he took the helm as Michigan’s QB back in the 90’s. Hate me if you must, it’s a Wolverine thing.

It is a shame that something as intrinsically American as a Sunday turf battle has turned into another political battleground. Not just because the NFL welcomed the #BLM premise and antics onto the field; now some of the sports hacks want us to view the annual matchup as another battle in the long wars: Right vs. Left: Woke Eagles, Trump-loving Patriots are on opposite sides of political spectrum.

The two franchises also seem to come from polar opposite ends of the political spectrum, too, setting up a clash between one of the most socially conscious teams in the NFL — and President Trump’s favorite football franchise.

The evidence, according to the New York Post’s Evan Grossman:

Not long ago, Patriots QB Tom Brady displayed a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker. Trump considers owner Bob Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick close friends, too, and Kraft was one of the most generous among Trump-friendly NFL owners, forking over $1 million to help fund his inauguration.

Vs:

Contrasting with New England’s deep Trump ties, the Eagles have emerged as one of, if not the most socially active team in the NFL. They have been referred to as “the wokest” team in the league.

In case there’s any ambiguity about the author’s virtue signaling his message is “how could you possible root against the Social Justice Warriors?” But if you’re still not convinced here’s the Eagle’s indisputable credential of authenticity and superiority:

The differences between the two teams are striking. While Kraft is a close Trump friend and supporter, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie earned a doctorate in social policy from Brandeis University.

Aside from the statement being a classic example of liberal logic, it is patently silly: Newsbuster’s appropriate response to this:

“Wow! And duh! Lurie is currently running a football team, and Trump is directing social policy at the nation's highest level.”

So do as you wish today: watch or don’t watch, root or don’t root. Just be sure to whip up some Super Bowl worthy chow - nachos, wings, ribs, brats, chili – because you have to eat!  I’m making a batch of my accidental chili: classic chili with ground beef, left over pulled pork, black and pinto beans and a mess of those roasted Hatch chilies we put up and packed in the freezer last fall. I’ll post a picture when I finally get it pulled together. And maybe I’ll make a batch of those ham and cheese sliders, it’s going to be a long day. And leftovers are great for breakfast.

“Perhaps a good study topic for tonight would be the Pharisees.”

Very appropriate topic.

“The philly ‘sports fans’ are so awful, that the crooked judges, aided by the crooked cops, set up special courts {think FISA} in the stadiums where they can arrest, convict and jail the rowdy fans without ever leaving the stadium.”

Good lord,are you serious?

Won’t watch it. Between the NFL’s contempt for America and all it stand for, I, as a veteran refuse watch anything to do with the NFL. And they can take that absolutely nonsensical half time show and shove it. Puppy Bowl!!!!!

It was a greatly conceived event and I remember all the way back to the first one. And for decades the nfl did a tremendous job assimilating the game and festivities into the culture, even despite a streak of boring-azz games

Now they’re blowing it in a short span with incredible arrogance and stupidity

I always wonder how the Super Bowl evolved, to have so much hype and hoopla surrounding it.

It’s simply the championship game of the NFL.

How did it evolve so that people have all these parties and events surrounding it?

How did it evolve so that major pop music stars are sought for the halftime show? How did it evolve so that the halftime show is some big bash in and of itself?

How did it evolve so that major companies have special commercials prepared just for that game?

How did it evolve so that tens of millions of people who never watch a football game all year, who know little of football, decide to watch the game?

Philly and Meek Mills. That’s more than enough to get anyone rooting for the Pats to turn this into a rout.

A chance to hate, you say?

Don’t hear much from the nutty greens about energy usage and the Super Bowl?

“U.S. Bank Stadium will use 92 kBTU/SF because of the venue’s advanced air handling units”

That is close to one therm of natural gas per sq/ft.
(For one year? Not stated http://www.vikings.com/news/new-stadium/article-1/—US-Bank-Stadium-Green-Initiatives-Important-from-Start/4fe06664-11af-4b12-8a6b-ffc9752db157 )

My January usage for ~3,000 sq/ft was 156 therms.

Also not clear if that includes the snow melter for the roof? HUGE.

And all the air miles and...

Yep I wonder about the roof. Remember how the roof collapsed at the Metrodome some years back? I hope their melting mechanism works better than back in those days.

Yep, the carbon footprint of this game is enormous.

In this “No Fun No More” age, the Lingerie Bowl seems to have disappeared. Shame.

I mean, I never understood how anyone could root for a team the eliminated your team from the playoffs, regardless of the sport.

Are you kidding me?

I and 99.9% of all other Boston Red Sox fans were pulling for the Houston Astros (who knocked us out in the Divisional playoff,) like crazy, to win the American League pennant series in last October.

Because they were playing the YANKEES!!!!.

Ham sliders? Those puny things? Here's a real game dog.

Bacon-wrapped doube barell chili dogs topped with guac and pork chicarrones. Supersize the fries.

Okay. Look Motus:

I am a life long Buffalo Bills fans stuck smack-dab in the middle of Patriot country (30 mins from Gillette). Thus went it comes to the Patriots vs Everybody meme, I fall under the latter.

However, this year is different. I actually WANT the your team to win. Even invited a few (ack, cough) Patriot fans over to the party today.

Why, you ask?

Two words: RETIRE ALREADY!

You guys have already proven yourselves, and made enough referees rich (sorry, had to get that in). And the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. What’s left - a shutout?

But if you lose, hopefully I can go back to having meaningful conversations with my co-workers.
