Another Super Bowl Another Chance to Hate and Eat
MOTUS A.D. ^ | 2-4-18 | MOTUS

Here we are, Super Bowl Sunday. I have only watched 2 playoff games all year but I most assuredly will be watching the Super Bowl because, unlike some 84% of my fellow Americans, I’m a New England Patriots fan. Worse, for many of you, a Tom Brady fan. Been one since he took the helm as Michigan’s QB back in the 90’s. Hate me if you must, it’s a Wolverine thing.

It is a shame that something as intrinsically American as a Sunday turf battle has turned into another political battleground. Not just because the NFL welcomed the #BLM premise and antics onto the field; now some of the sports hacks want us to view the annual matchup as another battle in the long wars: Right vs. Left: Woke Eagles, Trump-loving Patriots are on opposite sides of political spectrum.

The two franchises also seem to come from polar opposite ends of the political spectrum, too, setting up a clash between one of the most socially conscious teams in the NFL — and President Trump’s favorite football franchise.

The evidence, according to the New York Post’s Evan Grossman:

Not long ago, Patriots QB Tom Brady displayed a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker. Trump considers owner Bob Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick close friends, too, and Kraft was one of the most generous among Trump-friendly NFL owners, forking over $1 million to help fund his inauguration.

Vs:

Contrasting with New England’s deep Trump ties, the Eagles have emerged as one of, if not the most socially active team in the NFL. They have been referred to as “the wokest” team in the league.

In case there’s any ambiguity about the author’s virtue signaling his message is “how could you possible root against the Social Justice Warriors?” But if you’re still not convinced here’s the Eagle’s indisputable credential of authenticity and superiority:

The differences between the two teams are striking. While Kraft is a close Trump friend and supporter, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie earned a doctorate in social policy from Brandeis University.

Aside from the statement being a classic example of liberal logic, it is patently silly: Newsbuster’s appropriate response to this:

“Wow! And duh! Lurie is currently running a football team, and Trump is directing social policy at the nation's highest level.”

So do as you wish today: watch or don’t watch, root or don’t root. Just be sure to whip up some Super Bowl worthy chow - nachos, wings, ribs, brats, chili – because you have to eat!  I’m making a batch of my accidental chili: classic chili with ground beef, left over pulled pork, black and pinto beans and a mess of those roasted Hatch chilies we put up and packed in the freezer last fall. I’ll post a picture when I finally get it pulled together. And maybe I’ll make a batch of those ham and cheese sliders, it’s going to be a long day. And leftovers are great for breakfast.

I’m not a fan of either team although I dislike the city of Philadelphia but Boston ain’t all that either all run by DemoRats. The Patriots as a team are quiet workmanship going about their business. The Eagles work hard too but a little more brash however there are some God loving christians on the team so I’m ok with either team winning or losing. I was really pulling for the Vikings and Case Keenum. Oh well.

There is not now, nor ever has been, courts set up in Lincoln Financial Field or Citizens Bank Park. I agree with Philly being a s**t-hole, though. I have been to many Eagles games and can verify that there are plenty of knuckle-draggers and low lives there. But, then, you will find those at every NFL stadium.

My Marine son is deployed right now risking his life , and they think I will add to the NFL ratings for a bunch of spoilt, rich men who will show disrespect, like hell.

F the NFL, and those who support it. Let them have their worse ratings yet I say.

This court was set up in 1997 at Veterans Stadium, the old shit hole not the new ones that have many more civilized citizens...all three of them.

BTW, get all the facts, before you get on your high horse.

"By the time the Eagles played their next home game, two weeks later against the Steelers, they had come up with Eagles Court. Fans who fought, peed in public or snuck in alcohol (or flare guns) would face justice quickly, in a makeshift courtroom in a maintenance room at the Vet. The decision came from then-mayor Ed Rendell and Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, as well as names that meant little then but far more today: Democratic mayoral candidate Jim Kenney and former Pa. Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffery,"

Source is BillyPenn, you can look it up... it's on the innertube, it must be true.

Sorry, if I watch anything today it will be the Kitten Bowl on Hallmark.

Yes, I know. Nobody cares about the fact that the players and owners regard you as scum and hate this country. Not as long as they can watch guys in tight shiny pants prance around like a bunch of pansies for five seconds followed by ten minutes of people talking about it and slow-mo close ups of the guy's butts.

Enjoy your entertainment.

Because they were playing the YANKEES!!!!.

Well, you have a special reason for your hate for the Yankees. Which I must admit. I root for two teams every week. My Vikings, and anyone playing the Packers.

I should probably have added that like you I would probably have done the same thing if the team that beat my team was then playing the Packers. I too would have rooted for the team that beat my team.

But then I would root for the AFC team to beat the team that beat us if they advanced to the Super Bowl after beating the Packers.

I hope their melting mechanism works better than back in those days.

You do know they just built this stadium? It is only the second year the Vikings played in it. You could put the old Metrodome in this sucker. No chance of the ceiling caving in. If it did, there would be a lot of glass all over the place.

How did it evolve so that people have all these parties and events surrounding it?

In a word, Television.

Back when it started TV's were not common. People would try to get their friends who had TV's to invite them over to watch the game. For the teams that were playing this was the only way most of them could see the game as the Super Bowl was never played in the home stadium of either team.

Now it is just an excuse to party.

Yes I knew the stadium in Minnesota was just built. But I didn’t know what sort of melting mechanism they have.

Excuse to party, LOL. Yep I think that’s where we are now.

And some super bowls have been lackluster games.

A running joke among some friends, is that we usually see much better ,more exciting football games in the playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl, than the Super Bowl itself.

It is the only real reason to get together with your friends and get drunk until Saint Patrick's day.

MLK day is no reason to party, Valentine's is for couples, and Washington's Birthday is not often celebrated. Although I am thinking of trying to change the last.

Next year I will throw a big Washington's Birthday Bash. Maybe I can get a trend going.

A Giants fan since the 50s, I’m forced to root for the hated Eagles (only because I’m tired of the Patriots). A close, well played game and nobody hurt will be satisfactory, regardless of winner.

The philly fan base are thugs, rapists, murderers and I'm sure there are some good ones too:)

Which will bring the bigger riot...a Philly loss or a Philly win?

No way will I add to thei ratings so they can disrespect vets, those serving, the flag, and this country

I wonder how many players actually participate in this disrespect, and how many do not but keep silent because, racism.

Bacon-wrapped doube barell chili dogs topped with guac and pork chicarrones. Supersize the fries.

My cardiologist would have a heart attack if I ate that!
