I have had rides on public busses around Quito, Ecuador, Santiago, Chile and Mendoza, Argentina. They were frigetening.

Driving 50 mph in a sedan in 1980s Venezuela on the way to Meridan in the Andes. Round a curve and there's an old rickety truck ahead of us going 10 mph. Can't slow down in time so we swing over into the oncoming lane - only to see another truck heading for us. We're gonna die.

Trucker on our right pulls halfway over, trucker on the left pulls halfway over. We straddle the center line and zoom through. Took a couple of days for the pucker factor to wind down.

I know how that feels. Surprised my “brake foot” did not push a hole in the floor!
