Wow, my 25 year old boy called tonight to talk about asking his girlfriend to marry him. First, I had a feeling this conversation was coming based on what I could tell from what I saw from their relationship over the last year. They have been dating for over a year now, both in their PHD program, and I can tell they are soul mates. Oh my. Second, that's my first son. Is he ready.... My little buddy is thinking about such grown up stuff. Any parents going through the same stuff? Oh, they grow up so fast.......
Prenups are easily tossed out by court and it happens all the time.
Sounds like we went down the same path
So I cant expess my opinion here but you can. Or is it only people who think the same about evrything can say something on a thread you are posting to?

Yep...things don’t work out as planned most often.
My brother...man....he’s driving 90 minutes each way to work. Both him and my SIL have their Masters.
But, she doesn’t want to go back to work after being off for nearly a decade raisin the kidlets.
He’s dying daily....grinding it out.
And mentions he has no money....but somehow Amazon packages come to the house every day.
He’s just trying to pay off the house before he dies.
Magical.
These two will finish their doctorate programs with little debt. That will not be an issue. Let’s all hope that God blesses them with all the joyous things in life. Amen!!!!
Its not anger, its warning. Often people can’t figure out the difference because you take a warning as a personal attack when someone says something that conflicts with your worldview.
In retrospect...I’m the lucky one to have found my exwife smoking meth on the couch with her brother while I was doing military police duty on base.
That was a good punt. Haven’t heard from her in 20 years.

Remember to tell him he is in charge and encourage his sweetheart to enjoy cooking and cleaning etc as she will be doing all of it while he enjoys watching the ballgame or playing cards with the guys.
He can encourage the wife by a gentle tap on the rear end as she is vacuuming the rug etc.
When in public he can call her babe or introduce her as my little women or the ol ball and chain.
She can in return ask him to sign the rather large life insurance policy with double the amount given if he has an accident....
I wish it was not that way, but it is. 70-80% of divorces are women initiated, if they were not benefitting from the divorce system being skewed so havily in their favor, women wouldnt be doing it. If women got screwed by divorce the way men do, they would never get married in the first place.
And given about 90% marriges fail by year 10, and of those that don’t how many are actually happy couples, it’s an awful risk to take if you are a guy, case you have a high degree of probability you’re getting divorce raped.
Women don’t really care about this because the system is biased heavily in their favor and as they do’t have to worry about this occurring to them, it doesn’t bother them if it happens to men.
Wow you got a royal bitch. I am sorry. I didn’t do so well myself. Mine used up my good retirement money and ditched all his kids in so many ways. I don’t hate men or even marriage. Sometimes I blame myself and sometimes I just don’t bother with blame, just try to get on with my life. I am too loyal for my own good but that is just who I am. I’m a good person and I needed to learn that not everyone is really good deep down. Gd asks us to treat others as we want to be treated. Not everyone is following.
And now I may find love again but no way am I joining finances with anyone or exposing my kids to a stepfather in their home. Forget it. I’m done with marriage.

Divorce is a huge industry. Again, people are sheep and file in and make the attorneys rich. When I divorced it was at the same time as a friend was, and my ex and I sat in a coffee shop and filled out the forms to our mutual satisfaction, went to a judge and filed for under $300. My friend and her ex each got a lawyer and paid tens of thousands each for a two year long battle between the attorneys, each lawyer one upping the other and racing to outsmart the other. It was a bit like each of the couple had to purchase a football team and pay for the teams to battle on the field for a long expensive season.
The 50% marriage failure is a lie. If you are white it is likely to have a 90% failure.
How do they lie?
The marriage rate is 6.8 per 1000 and divorce rate is 3.4 per 1000 people. So it seems 50% failure.
However they do not count that 40% of marriage are re-marriage.
The rate of divorce + remarriage is 3.4 + 2.72 = 6.12 while the marriage rate is 6.8.
6.12 / 6.8 = 90%
However it should be less then 90% because some of the divorce are second marriage
(2.04 + 2.72)/6.8= 70%
Given that some people died before getting their second, third divorce and stuff like that it is higher then 70% so the median is 80%
For white the remarriage rate is 60% thus pushing the median to 90%
The CDC confirms Marriage is Dead
According to the CDC and the National Survey of Family Growth, 93% of first marriages fail within the first 10 years. Quote:
First Marriage Survival (Probability of lasting more than 10 years) Probability
Probability that a first marriage will survive 10 years 6.6 % – 1 in 15
If there was no birth during marriage 3.7 % – 1 in 27
If there was a birth before marriage 6.5 % – 1 in 15
If there was a birth 0-7 months after marriage 7.4 % – 1 in 13
If there was a birth 8+ months after marriage 7.9 % – 1 in 12
