“They view Trump as Big Brother and themselves as the Brotherhood.”
Ironic, considering Trump is the one “Big Brother” spied on.
"...revolution does not mean a movement of the masses with which they hope to associate themselves; it means a set of reforms which we, the clever ones, are going to impose upon them, the Lower Orders."
Trump is saying to the leftist elite, including the media, 'you aren't special', and that is one big reason they hate him so much.
A good article, but it could use some editing.
The first thing I noticed was the “four minutes hate”.
It was “two minutes hate”.
More glaring, and far more amusing, was this:
. . . his writings, from Animal House to 1984,
It was “Animal Farm”.
Thanks for pointing those out to me. I usually spend two days working on each blog which gives me more time to go through at least two editing cycles so I can catch mistakes like that. However, I try to have them up every Saturday night and this week I only had about half a day to get it done. So it’s not surprising a few mistakes got past me.
I can fix it on my site but on FR here it’ll stay the way it is. The Animal House one isn’t even my worst mistake...I once was writing critically about Richard Dawkins and ended up calling him Richard Dawson. I think “Hogans Heroes” was on in the background while I was typing. ;)
“Big Brother” in the novel was described as having a handsome, mustached face. Big Brother types aren’t usually at all like Trump...loud, boisterous, rough around the edges, and says what’s really on his mind. Obama was much more of a Big Brother...cool, emotionless, with a sycophantic media and a base that totally loves and defends him despite all the horrible things he does (Fast and Furious, Benghazi, using IRS to target conservatives, spying on opposition...)
I previously reviewed Brave New World on FR, as well. Click here if you're interested in reading it.
It’s certainly been gratifying to watch...I don’t know that we’ll ever again see a Republican president with this much gumption to fight back against the media.
Excellent book! And a far more likely future dystopia then 1984!

Thank you! Unfortunately, the conservative message is all about your namesake...personal responsibility. Which, while better for people, is a tougher sell than the Democrat message—give us unlimited power and we’ll shower you with free stuff!
Obama’s good buddy, William Ayers, of Weather Underground fame, had plans for what the Left would have to do once they seized power, according to testimony from an undercover agent:
Bill Ayers planned to murder 25 million Americans!

That is very true...at least Ayers was honest about his intentions. Every now and then a leftist comes along who blows it for the rest of them.
“he Animal House one isnt even my worst mistake”
Well it’s not like you blamed the Germans for bombing Pearl Harbor. :)
Lol
Hah I actually posted on your Brave New World thread, saying pretty much the same thing I said here. I usually at least click on the sci-fi threads about books. Very good review with analysis as how it might apply to our current culture.
Freegards
Well, y’know...it was a long time ago. Lol.
(I say the same things to customers at work a lot. “Hey, remember me! We talked like three weeks ago!” Me: “uh...I meet a lot of people...”)
No, but the Deep State may be another matter.
