I think the threat is more like Brave New World. We haven’t had even 65% eligible voter turnout since 1908, while the poorest are now the most likely to be obese. The internet and social media are like soma or bread and circuses that pacify and preoccupy society.

The Revolution claims, at first to be the friend of the people, then it becomes the friend of the Party, and in the end the Revolution is only the friend of the Revolution. In 1984, the citizens are required to participate in a daily “four minutes of hate.” Big Brother plays an image of Goldstein, the leader of the Brotherhood (who may or may not actually exist), while the people scream, boo, and hiss.

It's a matter of conviction for me, that Trump is Goldstein, even if the four minutes have been rather expanded, even to 24 hours, according to my perception.

This is an excellent compare and contrast, the current Left to 1984s Big Brother and INGSOC. In the end for both, it’s always about power and using that power to promise Utopia is just around the corner.

Outstanding! Thank you. My own opinion is that it isn't only 'power' that motivates today's left, but it's something similar to power - 'superiority'. I loved what you included from Orwell, and I think this quote encapsulates that 'need' to be 'superior':

"...revolution does not mean a movement of the masses with which they hope to associate themselves; it means a set of reforms which ‘we’, the clever ones, are going to impose upon ‘them’, the Lower Orders."

Trump is saying to the leftist elite, including the media, 'you aren't special', and that is one big reason they hate him so much.
