Springfield XD-S: Is it the Best CCW Pistol?
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 6/27/2018 | J Hines

Our society are full of conceal-carry options.
Right now is probably considered the golden age of personal defense handguns galore for the consumer.
You can get just about any size and caliber all design to go with you anywhere.

Memory Lane
In the 80s, the Walther PPK ruled the roost, unless you were into revolvers.
The early 90s saw the introduction of the compact Glock, and just a few years later the gun industry was flooded with .380s designed for pocket carry.
Now, polymer-framed, striker-fired compacts are a popular choice, along with compact 1911s and snub-nosed revolvers.

Here are some reasons that Springfield may just have produced a winner.

-The Springfield Armory XD-S is a compact, polymer-framed, striker-fired single stack pistol.
-Physically, the XD-S sits right in between traditional compact pistols (like a Glock 30) and true subcompacts like the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard or Ruger LCP.
-Single stack design, the XD-S has a frame that’s less than one inch wide (0.95 inches, to be exact). Read the rest of the Springfield XD-S pistol review here.

Two good points:
1. 7-11 distances
2. concealable in FL clothing

And as always, 9mm costs less that 45, so practice happens more. Unless you are sponsored ...

My wife loves the XD-E I purchased for her. It is hard for her to rack a slide and the reduced energy required on the XD-E suits her well. Gun is a little larger than previous choices ( Glock and Ruger in .380) but more manageable for her to fire.

I don’t know why he posts this stuff all the time. The writing is horrible, and usually the content is just a simplified rehash of common knowledge.

As to why I made my comment, sometimes I just get tired of poorly written blog pimpery, though I’m not as fanatic about it as you-know-who.

“I bought a P-11 for my Wife years ago, and it kept pinching her little finger at the mag well when she fired it. She also didn’t like the double action only trigger. When the XDs came out, I got her the first one in .45. She loved it, and carries it every day.” My wife doesn’t like double-double trigger mechanisms either. Matter of fact, I don’t like them. So, just what is the XD? Is it a double-single such as the Walter PPK? Or, a single-single such as the Colt Pocket Lite? I have both of these and the Colt is my pocket carry but I’m very familiar wth the singles as I’ve carried a 1911 much of my life. I bought the PPK for my wife but the slide is a bear to pull back. Hard even for me and I’m a big guy. Anyway, looking for something more lady friendly 😊.

That is the hammer indicator, the chamber indicator is on the top. The hammer indicator will be out if the hammer is cocked even if there is no round in the chamber.

“The cocked striker indicator pin sticking out the back of an XD is also an outstanding feature.”

The XDS doesn’t have this feature. I don’t know why it wasn’t included.

I carry a Browning Hi-Power in a belt pack. 13 rounds of 9-mms. Very accurate. Haven't had any problems associated with carrying it. Haven't need it yet, thank God. Ready in case I ever do need it.

The striker-fired pistol is an abomination.

I like both Glock’s and XD’s. One can have many long debates about which is better/simpler/safer. IMO the Glock is simpler therefore more reliable. The XD has added nice features, but in doing so might create a reliability problem (very doubtful in most circumstances). For example, does the cocked and loaded indicator on the XD, a very nice feature, outweigh the possibility that the grip safety could disable the gun if it ever got fouled by dirt? I would carry either one without concern.

Mr. GG2 carries it in .9mm. It’s affordable and reliable.

The striker-fired pistol is an abomination.

A strong opinion, which you are entitled too. :)

Of course there are a few million carriers who would argue otherwise.

The XD series has striker fired single action triggers. Like Glocks. No hammer. They do, however, have grip safeties -another feature that my Wife likes.
I have the 4.5 inch .45 XDm (The “m” simply means that it’s a match grade barrel). My main carry pistols are the Kahr CW45, and my trusty Beretta 92F.

my trusty Beretta 92F

Uh, ok, just keep it oiled. A dry 92 is anything but trusty. :)

Dude, some folks enjoy the gun threads. Some of us get tired of arguing politics. I never tire of debating guns.

Always well oiled and clean. However, the thing is like having a boat anchor strapped to my hip. But it’s the one pistol that I shoot with the most reliability and accuracy.
