Didn’t y’all almost lose the deer population in the Everglades back in the ‘70’s because they stopped hunting there??? The herd grew so large disease almost killed the whole herd off????

I’ve been down to Mobile, AL and around Lake City FL...
It is a little hillier there in north and NW Florida, but isn’t the highest elevation in the whole state only 200 feet above sea level???

Britton Hill is 345 feet above sea level, in Walton County, next to our county, Okaloosa.

My bumper/grill has a pretty good record, but the second shot has been a little tough . . .

Yep...It was the Key Deer...

Are they gonna be able to get rid of the pythons??? Or at least reduce to a manageable population????

Where are you hunting and in what season are you hunting?

In my area if you hunt with a rifle you are likely to be in trouble, shotgun, bow and crossbow only because of the number of farms. Go ten miles north and rifle is ok.

That law sounds just plain goofy to me..................

Not really. The higher the shooter is in the tree, the more likely the shooting trajectory is downward so that a bullet that misses is more likely to plow into the ground rather than carry for a mile or so.

Florida has no deer. They have medium-sized dogs with antlers.

Key Deer are small, very small deer. They have been protected so long that they have lost all fear of humans and will come in your house if you aren’t careful..............

A close relative of mine and I argue this all the time. He prefers a .22 mag, while I like 30-06.

I also like 00 Buck and/or slugs (if a shotgun is what I am using and I can get close enough)...

The Russian Boar population in the Great Smoky Mtns Park interbred with feral hogs and grew into damaging size populations in the Park several years ago...Since they are invasive and not native, the government (in their infinite wisdom) decided to hire some government hunters to help reduce the population. (Several local hog hunters who use Plott Hounds to hunt hogs legally volunteered to do it for free, but were rejected).

After six months, the hunters had killed about 25 hogs...It was then found that the “hunters” were spending all their time in Gatlinburg restaurants and bars than in the woods...

I grew up out West and was used to mule deer. When I was stationed at Elgin, I saw a massive rack out on the range. Expecting a huge stag to emerge from the brush, it took me a while to comprehend that a 10-point buck could be the size of a goat. It’s all good eating, though.
