Rutsey was straight-forward rock and roll. In this old video I think a lot of Alex’s solo is just jamming, with Rutsey laying down the rhythm and keeping it tight. It always amazes me that good musicians can just “play”.

I saw Phil Keaggy playing several years ago and he had about 6 other people up with him. He got a request from the small audience (in a small church) and said something like “Well - I know it! And I think the drummer knows it. And the rest can catch up!”

It was pretty amazing to watch as the other players found their way. The one gal started off playing a violin, but pretty early on she switched off to a flute and it mixed right in perfectly!

It’s the airport ID. I used to work in the airline industry.

I do know how to spell Albakerkey, I mean Albicirque, uh, Albuquerque.

I had business cards ordered/printed in Massachusetts. cir 1998

Stupid, native shop worker wanted to put MASS on my cards.

Had to make her get her driver license out to be able to spell her own state.

Saw them in April of 1981 in Jackson, Mississippi. Got just 1 acceptable photo of Geddy on stage. Still have that photo. If it weren’t such a pain in the ass to post photos here it’d throw it up.

Here is a one on one guitar lesson taught by Alex Lifeson, himself!

How to Play Tom Sawyer from iVideosongs by Songmaster.com.

T Alex talks for a while, then the lesson part starts about 21 minutes in.

the band members have long been outspoken libertarians/Objectivists.

Not for quite some time. While Peart was originally influenced by "The Fountainhead," he has since recanted, and now calls himself a "bleeding heart libertarian." Peart is now also an American Citizen. But for the most part, all three are pretty much centrist liberals, though NOT leftists, by American standards. Pretty much what you would expect from Canadian "mid-westerners."

All three are family men, with long marriages, even with the many years of touring. And Peart has been through some personal tragedies that I wouldn't wish on an enemy, and I hope that he's found peace and happiness with his new family.

I'm indebted to them for many years of enjoyment and (when I was in a band,) inspiration and influence.

These guys made it into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame before Rush.

Jan Wenner and RS magazine HATED progressive rock, especially Rush and Yes. Never mind that Rush sold out stadiums all over the world, tour after tour. Yes finally made it into the RRHoF after Rush, and sadly after founding members Peter Banks and Chris Squire passed away (though Chris' wife and daughter were on-stage during the award ceremony.) The members of Rush inducted Yes.
