It has been part of the rules and even Maria Sharapova got called on it via her coach holding up a banana which was a signal for Maria to remember to eat a banana during the changeover. In tennis, coaches are supposed to prepare and coach their player before the match and on-court coaching is not allowed. Maria Sharapova also got a long term suspension for a drug test when the substance had just been added to the list of banned PEDs. Serena cries discrimination because she is “tested more than other players” but she seems to duck tests more than other players.
Coco Vandeweghe got a huge monetary penalty for throwing a fit about no bananas on the water table (bananas again) at this year’s Australian Open.

No offense to you and thank you for trying to explain but the game appears to be f*cked by morons.
I remember when I was an enthusiastic follower of the game during the Borg-McEnroe contests. The only arguments I remember centered around McEnroe going apesh*t over whether a serve was on the line or a quarter inch out.
Now the rules are about effing bananas.
