Was Serena Williams Wrong In Her Outburst Or Was The Umpire Racist & Sexist ?
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
Tommy Sotomayor's take on Senera Williams.
Tommy gives his commentary on first part of show then callers call in.
Show is 57 minutes long so may want to listen while doing dishes or with headphones at work.
He gives phone number but this is a rebroadcast.
Tommy is awesome. He has ramped up since moving to AZ.
She’s a sore loser.
If she can’t have the win, then no one should have it.
It depends on whether the umpire was citing rules/facts, or, opinion.
Has anyone given any thought to it might be a Roid-Rage incident?
Williams is a thug.
and to the other FReeper who wanted this posted and can’t remember who you are sorry
She was clearly wrong, petulant and disrespectful. She threatened the judge that he would never work any match she was involved with (not heavily reported) and she also called him a “thief” for docking her a point. She kept it up and was then docked a game (which is not The game but just one of the many little games withing a match). She also continued to taunt the judge asking in snotty fashion when are you going to apologize? Are you going tyo apologize? You should apologize! Nasty thing. She has menaced and threatened judges before and gets by with it. She bitched out a small Asian woman judge saying she ought to shove this f’g ball down your f’g throat. She is huge, obviously on steroids etc. An Australian cartoonist accurately depicted her raging fit and was quickly damned as racist and misogynistic.
Having lived through John McEnroe’s era, who was the original bad boy in tennis, I doubt, even with updating, that he can be beat for sheer intensity and bitterness.
Both. If it can be proved that men have said more egregious foul things and not gotten similar penalties, it could actually be sexist.
But she was really badly behaved and that was poor sportsmanship.
Oh. I was thinking of a variation on crazed jealous lover like Criminal Minds.
Could be both.
They abuse their notoriety and set the worst possible example for others... especially young people.
McEnroe was another one who didn’t know how to govern himself.
Rule #1 for sore losers, “Let the Wookie win.”
Serena was getting whipped so she had a hissy fit so she's have someone else to blame besides herself.
It's gotta be all about me! Ya know.
McEnroe got cited for points and games as ell and he’s not a mother and a woman.
Her coach ADMITTED he did it... but said she didn’t see it... so she may feel she was wronged because she was penalized for cheating when in fact her coach was trying to cheat, but she didn’t see his signals...
I am no fan of Williams, honestly... but I can understand her being upset for being called for a violation she honestly may have had no idea about... I’d be livid too if I lost a point on the field for “cheating” when I didn’t do anything...
With all that said however I doubt highly this is the first or only time her coach has cheated, or that she has taken signals... or that other players and coaches do it routinely.... Just got caught this time...
And with all that said.... What affect does any of this have on my life? Absolutely zero.
If she mistakenly lost it and it was a misunderstanding, a normal person would apologize profusely instead of doubling down.
Serena has apologized in the past for outbursts.
The basic rule of good sportsmanship is one of the basics.
After her sister threw their match (6-2 6-1) I guess Serena thought all she had to do was show up for the trophy and check.
“Was Serena Williams Wrong In Her Outburst Or Was The Umpire Racist & Sexist ?”
well she was playing another -women- so not sexist
(but the umpire was a man - so that TRUMPS it) pun
Racist?- from wik..In a 2016 interview, Osaka said: “When I go to Japan, people are confused. From my name, they dont expect to see a black girl.”[11] half Haitian-
She considers herself black- so not racist-
(but the umpire was white - so that Trumps it again! )pun intended-
I am tired of sports...sigh
