The Court has always been politically divided. Look at the chart below. The Court has not been more Conservative than Liberal since 1953, when it was 5-2-2 (Con-Cent-Lib). For the entire 60's, there was NOT ONE Conservative at all (0-4-5), for a decade.

Now recall that recent GOP Presidents nominated hard-Left judges Souter and Stevens, as well as Centrists O'Connor, and Kennedy.

A Democrat President has not nominated a Conservative Justice since Truman named Vinson in 1946... 72 years... before Bill Clinton was born.

Democrats now shudder at the notion of legislatively passing their ideas... even though Kavanaugh is likely to wind up being a Centrist replacing a Centrist, leaving the Court as the same 3-2-4 (Roberts and Kavanaugh in the middle) that it was just 3 months ago.

I get the sense they’re both uneasy about having to deal with Kavannaugh...who has an exceptional constitutional intellect....and they know it.

I would also add a male Judge would not have spoken about being concerned in a setting as that. Their woman hood is clearly in view.
