He did astoundingly well for a Texas Democrat. He’s already got a national profile. He’s proved he can raise a ton of money without indebting himself to corporations. His Uplifting Articulate Guy persona presents a clear alternative to Trumpism without coming across as scolding or patronizing. While he lost his Senate race, he has experience in Congress, but not so much experience that past votes will haunt him. He’s shown a rare willingness to answer tough questions. And as the clip above indicates, he has the charisma to make a live-TV F-word somehow come across as endearing and wholesome. Beto 2020—why not?

Robert Francis is a proven liar. I don’t care how charming he is or how much money he can raise. He is a proven liar and not genuine. He needs to be a known honest and genuine person. He can be crass and abrupt but he must also be genuine and honest. Beto is neither.

Sounds like a great commercial to re-create his DWI. Start with text “1998”, recreate his car at high speed crashing into a truck, careening into oncoming traffic and his attempt to run with a voice over of the witness “he tried to drive away.” Put in his 0.136 and 0.134 test on police breathalyzers (maybe as part of a radio call) and then fade away to his 2020 campaign sign.
Be careful what you ask for. The performance of O'Rourke, Sinema, and Abrams in solid red states and Gillum in FL shows the trend is against us regardless of the great Trump economy. 2 more years of Boomers dying off and brainwashed Millenials being pushed through our schools isn't going to help things. Beto shouldn't have been within 8% of Cruz. It was TEXAS! He outperformed Obama by a huge margin in TX, and being far more "likable", might do so nationally. O'Rourke is an attractive, charismatic, articulate candidate with an attractive family and access to unlimited personal wealth as well as huge backing. He might not be a factor in 2020, but taking him lightly will be a mistake.
