Just like in 2012, Mitt Romney folds like a cheap suit. Maybe it was the backlash of outrage emanating from the GOP base in the wake of his idiotic opinion piece in the Washington Post; perhaps it was President Trumps refusal to take his bait; or maybe it was the Twitter tongue-lashing he received from his own niece who chairs the Republican National Committee:
Ronna McDaniel ✔ @GOPChairwoman POTUS is attacked and obstructed by the MSM media and Democrats 24/7. For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack @realdonaldtrump as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive.
Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump Here we go with Mitt Romney, but so fast! Question will be, is he a Flake? I hope not. Would much prefer that Mitt focus on Border Security and so many other things where he can be helpful. I won big, and he didnt. He should be happy for all Republicans. Be a TEAM player & WIN!

Here are some outtakes from that interview:
When asked by Tapper if he plans to challenge President Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, Romney responded:
No. You may have heard I ran before. Ive had that experience. And, by the way, I acknowledge the President was successful. And I was not. He did something I couldnt do. He won. And I recognize that and appreciate that. But no, Im not running again. And well see whether someone else does in a Republican primary or not.
Oh. Then there was this:
I would vote for the border wall. Ive made that part of my platform for many, many years. I think we should have a border wall on our southern border, and whether its a wall or fence or technology and perhaps in some cases the natural landscape prevents people from coming in but weve got to secure our border.
You dont say?
Romney couldnt resist going after the Presidents character because of course he couldnt but he even filled that very mild attack with all manner of conciliatory qualifiers:
I think its very important for a president to demonstrate the qualities of integrity and honesty forthrightness, empathy and respect for the institutions of our democratic republic, Romney said. I think those are all parts of the job. Romney agreed with the Trump administration on a lot of policy fronts and salute the work thats been done by the Republican leadership in Washington, but admitted there are places that relate to the if you will, forming of national character that I think we could do a better job.
Romney next claimed that the Presidents announcement that he would end the 7-year involvement of the U.S. in Syrias ongoing civil war during the course of 2019 was the reason why he penned his disgraceful op/ed piece:
And I think its important, as I begin this new job, to make it very clear where I stand. And I also note that the departure of Secretary (James) Mattis and the decision to pull out of Syria and the abrupt way it was done was a precipitating event for my finally going on this record.
Yet, two days before Romneys piece appeared in the WaPo, notorious warmonger Lindsey Graham had had a lunch discussion on that subject with President Trump and told the leering press that he felt much better about the Presidents Syria strategy after having that face-to-face discussion with him. If Syria were really such a big concern to Romney, why wouldnt he do as Graham did and request a one-on-one talk, which Mr. Trump would certainly have been happy to have?
The answer to that is obvious, isnt it? Mitts WaPo grandstanding wasnt about Syria at all it was about drawing attention to himself and trying to position himself as a viable candidate for the presidency in 2020, should Trump decide not to seek a second term, or in 2024.
This really isnt complicated, and Mitt Romney hasnt changed a bit over the past seven years.
I remember no one wanted to vote for him, or McCain.
..never ready for prime time...Mittens
sucks again
I figured that even though he was a deep state RINO, he’d probably do OK as a Senator.
Wrong again.
You should see his Facebook page! He’s been “shot at and missed and $hit at and hit!”
I believe that unlike Flake and McInsane, Romneys nuts...if any...will be in a POTUS lockbox before long.
His main supporter is Comey...does that show how pathetic he is?
Thanks Utah. For giving us this POS.
You're right. For him I was simply voting against zero's second term, when it came to McCain I was really voting for Sarah Palin. It is a shame that Utah couldn't have come up with a better candidate.
You’ll notice Rona didn’t say he was wrong with his concerns and criticisms, but wrong for doing it.
No one but the Mormons of UT; his election was foretold in that state.
Amen! I worked at local Republican head quarters from 1996 - 2012 and we sold lawn signs. NO ONE wanted McCain or Romney signs! A lot of people did ask for Palin signs. I would tell them McCain is the candidate, she is the VP candidate. People all voiced opinions way back then that they did not support McCain, but loved Palin. 330 million US people and that was the best we could do, McCain, Romney, and Bush #2....
Check your shoes Mitt, you stepped in it.
Mittens McFlake.
McRyanoflake.
You can go back to Nov 2008, and ask a hundred GOP voters, and I think only around 50-to-60 percent were enthusiastic or compelled to vote for McCain. I would suggest a quarter of them just stayed home and didn’t vote.
So we come to 2012, and you might have had maybe two-thirds of the normal voters enthusiastic. In the south, the empty-suit guy was just some loser.
I can remember in the early spring of 2016...Rubio and the cast of clowns were identical to McCain/Romney. Trump was the outsider....he was not some fake politician.
She characterized it as an attack, just like what Democrats and media do, and want others to do. That’s pretty harsh IMO.
“I figured that even though he was a deep state RINO, hed probably do OK as a Senator. Wrong again.”
Unfortunately, I think you’re onto something. Utah means nothing to carpetbagger Willard. So, why is he in the Senate? It won’t be to serve Utah’s interests (they should have thought of that, but are probably not allowed to).
Willard is the face of the anti-American, out-sourcing, Cheap Labor Express wing of the GOP. Trump is so vital because he is GOP and he opposes this.
I hope Willard gets charge of the Senate restrooms. It will serve him, and his state, justly.
Hey Willard! Maybe there’s a way you could make some money out of undoing the massive Clinton land-grab in “your state”. It would actually help America at the same time. I know that’s not how you roll, but think about it.
When you think about it, Sarah was a lot like Donald, she was outspoken and didn’t shy away from giving it to the swamp and the media. Michele Bachmann was another good one, smart, quick witted and wasn’t afraid of taking on the media. We need people like these in office, not the typical crap we have so much of now.
RINO Romney definitely needs more fibre in his diet.

...
I think Romney’s established that his favorite media outlets for getting out his message are the Washington Post and CNN.
