Why The Media Falls for Obvious Hoaxes: Because, Like Fox Mulder, They Want to Believe

Today’s Campaign Update, Part II (Because The Campaign Never Ends)

Jussie, we hardly knew ye. – And just like that, Jussie Smollett’s obvious hoax, which was promoted by the entirety of your fake news media and a raft of craven Democrat politicians for two solid weeks because it fit their anti-Trump narrative, came to a crashing end. In case you missed it, news came down last night that Chicago Police had charged the neurotic actor with felony disorderly conduct and filing a false report. And thus, yet another media-promoted hoax – which was an obvious hoax from its first fake reports – crashes and burns with no one in the media bothering to apologize for their own conduct.

Some have speculated over the past few days about why it is that our fake news media keeps falling for this kind of transparent hoax, ruminating over all sorts of complex explanations. But the reality is really quite simple: The overwhelmingly naive, biased, rage-filled leftist “journalists” who infest the nation’s newsrooms quite simply want to believe anything that reflects negatively on President Donald Trump and/or his supporters.

Think of these people as a bunch of Fox Mulders from the old X-Files series, only not quite. Despite Mulder’s constant refrain of “I want to believe,” his character did consistently employ a healthy dose of skepticism in his investigations of “paranormal” activities, many of which ended up being blatant hoaxes. So, despite his desire to “believe” in the story line laid out before him, his healthy skepticism meant he had nothing to apologize for at the end of each episode.

Contrast that to the on-air leftwing activists at CNN and MSNBC, and the anti-Trump fanatics who pose as “editors” and “reporters” at the New York Times and Washington Post, not to mention disgraceful digital sites like the Daily Beast and the Huffington Post. Every time some obvious hoax that would cast negative light on the President or someone associated with him arises, some combination of these media outlets invariably become the ring-leaders of the fake media mob.

Think about it: All of these media outlets still desperately cling to the “Russia Collusion” fantasy, despite public knowledge that the entire thing was concocted by the Hillary Clinton campaign, despite the public knowledge that it is based entirely on a fake “Dossier” compiled by foreign agents who were on the Clinton/DNC payroll, despite the failure of multiple congressional committees and a 21-month-long Special Counsel investigation to turn up a shred of evidence implicating the President in any wrongdoing.

Why is that? Because they want to believe. The hoax fits their preferred narrative, after all. Why be skeptical? Why employ some modicum of journalistic standards, when your personal bias and greatest longings in life have been confirmed?

These and other fake media outlets still treat Christine Blasey Ford as some sort of heroic angel despite the reality that pretty much everything she testified to against Brett Kavanaugh has been proven to have been false. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good anti-Trump narrative? They want to believe.

These same fake media outlets spent two weeks in January smearing a bunch of Catholic school kids for no real reason other than a few of them were wearing MAGA caps and one of them was – gasp! – smiling! Their smearing of these children was based entirely on an obviously-edited video, even though the full video clearly demonstrated the kids were the ones who had been assaulted and had done nothing wrong. But the edited version fit the Democrat/media narrative about anyone who supports the President, so they all went with that instead. On Tuesday, the cretins at the Washington Post got named in a $250 million libel suit for those efforts. Hopefully more such filings will follow.

There have been at least two dozen times over the past two years in which either the Times or the Post published stories based solely on “anonymous sources” making some wild claim about either President Trump or Donald, Jr. or someone in the Administration, stories that immediately created an online feeding frenzy from all the other fake media outlets, and stories that within 24-48 hours were proven to be utterly and laughably fake. Hoaxes. Obvious hoaxes from the start, to anyone with a modicum of skepticism.

But the media wanted to believe those stories and repeated them in a frenzy without the slightest analysis.

The Smollett case stank to high heaven from the very first report. We were asked to believe that, in heavily-liberal Chicago, on a night when the temperature was well below zero, there were these “white supremacist” guys roaming around wearing MAGA caps, looking for some no-account actor to assault. We were asked to believe that these MAGA white guys shouted “this is Trump country” and various racial slurs during their assault, and even had a rope handy to wrap around Smollett’s neck.

Even better, we were asked to believe that Smollett’s Subway sandwich escaped unharmed during the assault, and that Smollett sat around for 45 minutes wearing the rope while he ate said sandwich, and still had it around his neck when the police arrived. Even better than that, we were supposed to believe these MAGA-cap white supremacists had splattered Smollett with bleach even though the temperature was about 30 degrees below the point at which bleach freezes.

An obvious hoax. A hoax so transparent that Fox Mulder wouldn’t even have wanted to believe it. But the entirety of our fake news media and leadership of the Democrat Party sure as hell did. They all fell for it hook, line and sinker, going out of their way to deploy racially-charged language in their statements and tweets in which they referred to the “victim” in glowing terms.

They wanted to believe because it fit their preferred narrative.

Now that the media’s hero has been revealed as a complete fraud and will go to trail for his crimes, the media will no doubt support his almost-certain efforts to claim that he is actually the real victim here: A victim of depression, a victim of bi-polar disorder, a victim of some sort of mental or emotional malady that he and his lawyers hope will get him sentenced to rehab rather than jail time. And once whatever sentence he receives has been completed, Smollett will no doubt be paid millions by some book publisher and millions more for the movie rights to his “story”, and the fake media will award its hero with gobs of free airtime and print space to promote whatever he’s hawking.

Because that’s what our fake reporters and editors and talking heads do with their favored frauds. They want to believe, and one way or another, they will.

It really is that simple. No further analysis required.

That is all.

The people who are addicted to watching must want to hear this nonsense. The advertisers keep advertising and a few people keep watching. The hoaxes are now considered news reporting.
People keep getting paid to make things up for the gullible
public.

Before this happened Smullet thought he was famous, that people knew he was a “celebrity”, one who would recognized on the street by his adoring fans.

NOW he is famous. Spectacular fail!

He is homosexual, which by default is a mental or emotional malady. So they got that part right. But he CHOSE the behavior, it wasn't thrust upon him.

*But he CHOSE the behavior, it wasn’t thrust upon him.*

*To clarify, the behavior in question was the false assault claim intended to tar all conservatives, not his faggotry.

People believe what they want to believe. There is no rational basis for belief, only a probability, depending on the veracity of the one telling us the story in question.

jussie’s only hope now is to go on a hysterics-dominated TV show, like the view, and sob, whimper and weep. That will convince the viewers that he is innocent and that Trump had him arrested for no reason.

Comparing the MSM to the fictitious Fox Mulder is a travesty. Mulder had some ethics.

I first noticed this when my wife was in J-School in the 1970's. WaPo had just succeeded in taking down a President. People were flocking into journalism saying they wanted to "make a difference." They didn't have the slightest interest in how to investigate a story or to include the 5-W's.

They wanted to "make a difference" - translation: taking down a Republican President sounds like a really cool profession to get into. Like the GEICO commercial says, that' s who they are.

Just like in “the firm” when he put that letter in the mail, it became a Federal offense! They need to play that clip of Tom Cruz saying it to that federal agent (actor Ed Harris)

Most of the people in the media don”t even personally know one Trump supporter. They really believe that most Trump supporters go around wearing MAGA caps and are racist KKK members. They don’t even know how ridiculous and obviously false the Smollet story sounded to actual Trump voters.
