What Happens When the Grid Goes Down
Canada Free Press ^ | 03/14/19 | Clare Lopez

The U.S. does not have to be Venezuela, either socialist or grid down

As if the complete — and inevitable — collapse of Venezuela’s disastrous socialist experiment were not bad enough, the long-suffering population there is now five days into a near-total collapse of its electric grid.

People are increasingly desperate for the most basic necessities of life, most especially water.

Grid was down at the dynachrome mansion from 11 am yesterday to 6 am today due to monster winter storm. I did ok and would have been ok for awhile. Coleman stove for coffee and cooking. Heat would have been an issue by tomorrow (small kerosene heater for indoors). Plenty of snow for water, but water to house stayed on. No cell phone service, but could text once in awhile.

One Second After by William Fortchean is a very good book on the matter. It’s a novel, and it moves quickly.

The beauty of America was dispersed power, local decision-making, dispersed responsibility, but a unified culture tying it all together.

We have gone the opposite direction on all of these. Centralized power to support the empire in Washington DC, and divided culture and politics making agreement elsewhere impossible.

That’s when “Black Swans” occur.

Have you read the sequel to this and, if so, is it any good?

We have natural gas lines for a “fireplace” (decorative but it puts out heat) and for the stove (which also warms the kitchen even when one would rather it didn’t fight the A/C...) and lots of long matches for when the electric “zappers” don’t operate to get the flame going.
I’ve heard that after hurricanes which dump the power, the gas lines come in handy...plus we find we like it better for cooking.

There are 2 sequels, One Year After & The Final Day.

Both good reads, but less punch then the 1st.

Another GREAT series is by A. American. Starts with Going Home. 10 books in the series so far. I think I like these more then William Fortchean’s maybe. But both write very well on the subject.

If the grid goes down ‘elites’ in that Venezuelan hellhole will still be eating caviar and going out to A-list restaurants. That’s how it works in commie hellholes - the thugs at the top don’t hurt. It’s what our ‘deep state’ would do to us if they could get away with it...

If the electrical grid goes down for any extended period of time, I assume natural gas supply is going to stop soon as well.

I don’t know enough about how natural gas is processed/cleaned, pumped, and pressure maintained in the system though. The lines are underground, so that is always extra protection from anything in the atmosphere.

Perhaps gas companies do it all independently with their own power sources? I just don’t know. would like to hear from some experts on this.

That's how it works in commie hellholes. Thugs at the top don't do without - that's for the little people. Starvation's part of communism. Read up on commie history.

It's what our ‘deep state liberal thugs ’ would do to us if they could get away with it...

It’s good to remember that life existed for a very very very very long time before electricity

Propane can be piped in from a tank.

There are limits to size before needing a permit.

Just need larger jets for it over methane, but works good.

Tanks can be filled and stored for emergencies.Or, can simply use a gas BBQ :-)

There are two inherent problems with using electricity.

Problem 1. Quick battery recharging
Problem 2. Efficient, economical small scale AC power generation.

Although we can be confident that U.S. grid maintenance has a better track record than Venezuela’s, because the U.S. civilian electric grid is largely unprotected against EMP effects (which can be generated by either the sun or an enemy regime’s nuclear attack), we too could face the kind of devastating societal collapse ...

Our corrupt deep State would rather expand their fiefdoms than SOLVE PROBLEMS BY HARDENING THE GRID.

Yep, let's hire another thousand 'intelligence' thugs to write reports... RATHER THAN USING THE MONEY TO SAFE GUARD THE COUNTRY BY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM... NOT JUST 'WRITING IT UP'...
