Why does Iran need to and from doing what stopped? From threatening the Sunni Arabs?
Why should American lives be put on the line AGAIN for this Sunni-Shia war? The Shia have not sent terrorists to blow up buildings, metros or concerts. It was Sunni terrorists from Saudi inspiration who killed hundreds of Christians in church on easter 2019, it was Sunni saudis who blew up the WTC towers.
Saudi arabia is the enemy - and if the Iranians want to fight them, good. Let the USA stay out of it

Iran isn’t that stupid. And more so, why are American protecting the Saudi wahabbis? Leave them to fight and kill each other. Iran vs Saudia (and you can bet the Pakis will come to protect their paymasters)

We are Americans here, and this is not our problem. There’s a billion Arabs in the region who could deal with the problem if they so chose; clearly, they do not so choose.
So it’s none of our business. If Iran screws with us we will obliterate it. Until and unless that happens, any appeals to send US troops into another Middle Eastern meat grinder can and will be met with hostility.
We shouldn’t even have a base at Al Tanf. We need to pull all our assets out of the region and let it be someone else’s problem.
The US is no longer dependent on Middle Eastern oil - the strategic situation has thus changed dramatically. While we once needed to care, we no longer do.
In fact, a crisis that shuts down ME oil production in whole or part would be a massive boon to the USA, given that we are now the world’s largest exporter.
We may be the largest exporter, but we are not the largest refiner. Most gasoline and other petroleum products are imported largely for the ME. Our refinery capacity is limited and the refinery business is not really profitable in the US.
Someone else’s problem? So just let Israel stand alone against Iran, and its proxies: Syria, Lebanon, Hamas, and Hezbollah? Allow Iran to take over the Western Mediterranean?
So when Iran moves its Revolutionary Guards and A-Qods troops out of Venezuela and up to our southern border with Mexico, it will still be someone else’s problem or will you draw a red line there?
Pop several EMP’s over Teheran and when the R.G.’s command & control over Iranian society disintegrates because all their computers are fried, then the people will rise up and before long every lamp post in Iran will be decorated with mullahs and R.G.’s.

I often think how much better the world would have been if Bush senior didn’t take on Saddam. American losses were small, yes, but even one American life lost for the Saudis is a waste. And the trillions spent there?
Saddam was
1. threatening the Saudis & Qataris and taking their money that was later used to fund jihadis
2. slaughtering jihadis - he hated them as they opposed him. The jihadis would have been tied up fighting him (and losing)
3. attacking and preparing to attack Iran
Imagine that - he was taking care of three problems for us. He was still a murderous evil bast... but he was keeping the OTHER murderous evil b... in check

Now that I ABSOLUTELY know what the bushes are about, I am sure $$ and big companies influenced his decision.
And of course keeping a Saudi’s enemy in check would have been important to him since the bushes and the Saudi leaders are blood brothers.

I haven’t really read into the bush’s business dealings so can’t comment. I only know that it was a mistake. The same with the 2003 Iraq war. I was opposed to that (quite an unpopular position on FR) - I was fully 100% for the war in Afghanistan. If we hadn’t gotten distracted or better yet had taken the war into Pakistan and taken out Osama, life would be so much better
But the real killer mistake was Gulf War 1
I don’t think that would happen. See, the Ayatollahs go also on Iranian nationalism - so every time the US appears as the enemy you have people who hate the mullahs but reluctantly sign up against the “common enemy”

well there are only about 100 million or so Arabs. Turks, Pakis etc. aren’t arabs. Egyptians are “arabized”
