A knitting and crochet website, Ravelry, is suffering from extreme Trump Derangement Syndrome with the result that they have banned anybody who posts anything favorable about Donald Trump. Note that this is not a general ban on political discussion. If you upload a project of knitted socks with hammer and sickle designs or post favorably about Elizabeth Warren, that is permissible. Only posting favorably about the Big Bad Orange Man is taboo there.
I also analyze the genesis of this whole TDS outbreak on a knitting site which goes back to January due to the Social Justice Warriors going into full Red Guards mode over a laughably innocuous sentence in a post about knitting. The SJW Red Guards went on to bully the author of the "offensive" post as well as someone else who objected to such madness.
I’m betting that the women of that knitting site don’t sell a calendar with their members in it.
PING!
The Hussein Head is PROUD of her bigotry.

UPDATE: I’ve posted this article as a point of relevant news for the knitting/crochet community. I think that there are productive conversations that can be had about a private company’s right to set their own rules, people (or company) in power’s responsibility to support marginalized groups, how we as digital newbies (meanie first generations to be dealing with the breadth of the community we now have access to) can/should navigate the getting-grayer-by-the-moment lines between virtual, niche platforms and the current events that affect us as a country/world. I’m open to the comments section being a place for some of that discussion, as long as it’s respectful. Although I won’t personally be responding to comments, I *will* be moderating and reserve the right to delete any posts, on either side of the issue, that are mean-spirited and/or disrespectful to any member of our community. Thanks!
A bold move today by the yarn industry’s largest social media/patterns database company Ravelry. Read their latest public statement here.

Coexistence with these people is not possible.
Stop pretending it is.
Am SO happy the Hussein Heads have mostly STFU here, except for the occasional ones who feel COMPELLED to excrete horseclinton in response to some of my posts.
From the looks of the picture on their Twitter page, it seems like they knitted their fair share of pink p***y hats.
I am guessing but I bet most women that know are from conservative states?
This stupidity is going to hurt a lot more businesses in addition to Ravelry.
Frigging idiots.
I have been a member for years to this site. I weave and knit, and have purchased many patterns on the site. I was so disappointed when I read this. They have some posters that are frothing mouthed liberals full of anger and hate. Everything is political to them. They spend their days making up patterns with vulgar things to say about Trump on whatever they knit. Since this has been enacted I will not purchase any patterns through their website, either I will go through the pattern creators website or not purchase the pattern. They still allow all the left political hate speech.
This is how bad things are getting:

Edit: This thread has served its purpose of notifying people of the new policy, and further comment isn’t required, thus we’ve locked it.
Please do not reply to non-mod posters in this thread. This is not a thread for discussing or debating the policy with other posters; this policy is not up for debate. This thread is for sending questions and constructive feedback to the mod staff.
However, if you wish to talk to our newly arrived members or returned posters, a thread has been set up here for that purpose. In addition, TheWyzard has suggested a number of places to get started exploring the boards in the last post of the thread.
The following policy announcement is the result of over a year of serious debate by the moderation team. The decision is as close to unanimous as we ever get. It will not be the subject of further debate. We have fully considered the downsides and ultimately decided we have to stay true to our values. We will not pretend that evil isnt evil, or that it becomes a legitimate difference of political opinion if you put a suit and tie on it.
We are banning support of Donald Trump or his administration on the RPGnet forums. This is because his public comments, policies, and the makeup of his administration are so wholly incompatible with our values that formal political neutrality is not tenable. We can be welcoming to (for example) persons of every ethnicity who want to talk about games, or we can allow support for open white supremacy. Not both. Below will be an outline of the policy and a very incomplete set of citations.
We have a community here that weve built carefully over time, and support for elected hate groups arent welcome here. We can’t save the world, but we can protect and care for the small patch that is this board.
I guess it’s a good thing I Don’t knit.
Also remember that local yarn shops will often get their patterns from Ravelry and sell them to you. I will now be sure to ask my LYS if the pattern I am purchasing from them will come from Ravelry. If so, no sale.
I think there are lots of conservative, patriotic members of Ravelry, but they may be too afraid of getting banned to argue with management. At least that's my opinion from years of interaction with other Ravelry members.
Good for you. I hope they go under and a more patriotic entrepreneur would start up another business for alternative purchases.
Yup.
I initially thought about deleting my account.
Then I decided I’m just going to use them. Never purchase anything, but use their pattern/yarn library information and other valuable info.
Any patterns I find I can’t live without I’ll make sure are available somewhere else.
Amazon, interweave.com, etc.
Thanks for this info.
That cowl is gorgeous!
Expect this to be the first of DOZENS, if not HUNDREDS, of crafty type sites to take this stand. Ravelry will see itself as a victorious pioneer.
Gosh, I think I have been with ravelry forever. My account is now deleted. Really sad.
