Actor Rip Torn, who appeared in over 100 films during a career spanning six decades, has died at 88, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Torn, born Elmore Rual Torn Jr., was perhaps best known for his role in the original Men in Black and his work on the HBOs The Larry Sanders Show, for which he won an Emmy.
His role as the father of Mary Steenburgen in 1984 drama Cross Creek also earned Torn an Oscar nomination. Torn died peacefully at home in Lakeville, Connecticut, surrounded by his wife, Amy Wright, and their two daughters, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

One of his best roles was as the sergeant in Beach Red, the best war movie ever made.

Great actor. The first movie of his I saw as a kid was Nicholas Ray’s King of Kings. He played a tortured Judas Iscariot who tries to reconcile Our Lord’s teaching with that of the Zealots. Let’s just say that didn’t go very well.

RIP. What a talented actor. IIRC he was GOP.
For me, his role as Arthur on The Larry Sanders Show was classic. Loved that show and he was my favorite character on it.

31 posts and no quotes from MIB? “Intergalactic kegger”? Now that’s funny, right there.

Liked that flick a lot. Two now late native Texan actors in it, Rip Torn and Powers Boothe. RIP.
