“Farmageddon”: Trump Announces More Emergency Bailouts As U.S. Farm Debt Soars To $416 Billion

President Trump just announced yet another round of emergency bailouts for U.S. farmers. This emergency aid will be greatly welcomed by countless struggling farmers, but a few thousand dollars won’t be nearly enough to save most of the farms that are on the verge of failing. Coming into 2019, farm debt was already at a record high and farm bankruptcies were already rising. But then crazy weather patterns made planting season a complete and utter mess, and more crazy weather patterns have turned harvest season into a major disaster. On top of everything else, the Trump administration’s trade dispute with China has greatly reduced U.S. agricultural exports and hurt prices. This has been an absolutely nightmarish year for U.S. farmers, and a series of government bailouts hasn’t done much to ease the pain.

Realizing that more emergency intervention was necessary, President Trump just announced that another round of bailouts is on the way…

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday welcomed a “cash” payout to American farmers before the Thanksgiving Day holiday that he attributed to China tariffs, but that money actually is part of a U.S. government aid package.

“Our great Farmers will recieve (sic) another major round of ‘cash,’ compliments of China Tariffs, prior to Thanksgiving,” he wrote on Twitter.

Maybe John Deere should stop selling farmers over priced tractors that require a computer engineer with special software to diagnose?

That equipment can’t be cheap

And if there is an “update” they just don’t support your million dollar equipment anymore and tell you to go buy a new one.

End Times Ping

This is something the MSM has refused to report on. The global food supply has taken a beating this year.

Luke 21:10-11
10 Then He told them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, along with fearful sights and great signs from heaven.

Let’s not forget that they now have a propane shortage and can’t dry their wet crop harvest. Woes from beginning to end this year.

Aren't farmers free to buy whatever kind of equipment they want?

My tax dollar will now compete with my savings to buy farm land.

Of course, but added equipment expenses because the “right of repair” has been taken away by expensive software licenses (yes for a tractor) is making equipment purchases even more expensive and causing more debt.

“Pre computer” equipment is getting scarfed up out of boneyards and being rebuilt to get around this issue.

Related but not as serious - have been concerned about my next car being loaded down with so much "help" that I won't be able to focus on driving for the excess of warnings, notifications etc. coming at me from inside my vehicle.

Equipment is a huge expense for any farm

It is what most farm debt is

The farms are failing from Global Cooling. This was the shortest and coldest summer in 40 years.

The government has manipulated agriculture for a loooong time and force Farmers to do their bidding...if it weren’t for that (and as Charlie Daniels sings, “If the man don’t work, the people don’t eat”) I might agree with you - President Trump recognizes that a lot of the problem (along with other “snags”) and long-term interference has put them in position to be harmed even as he fights the Chicoms and others for better trade deals...

I am all for equitable trade. The Chinese, like my ex-wife, have their own definition of what is ‘equitable’.

The reality is that the Chinese were not really buying that much American farm produce in the first place which is one of the reasons our trade was so out of balance.

Also, the economy has changed significantly. For example, American cotton farmers are suffering as a result of the textile industry moving from the Southeast States to Southeast Asia. Now, American cotton with shipping costs added has to match the price of Australian cotton with far less transportation costs. Yes, it is very tempting to just let the farming industry die if it cannot compete.

However, we should think about the full consequences of that which we plan to do before we do it. Do we really want to be dependent on other nations for our food?

I know what you mean...

When I bought my first new car, it was a 1990 Toyota Carolla. I ordered it with hand-crank windows (they were still available back then,) cloth seats, no radio, cruise control (had to be added by the dealer,) and wiper delay.

I wanted the minimum electronic devices that could fail (I added my own stereo.)

I will admit, they’ve gotten much more reliable over the years. But still, I sort of miss the days when I could do my own tune ups, with nothing more complicated that a few hand tools, feeler gauges, a timing light and a tach and dwell meter. Not that I have the time to do my own tune-ups anymore.

Mark
