Greta Thunberg: Time Magazine's Snowy Owl of the Year (with meme)
Free Republic ^ | 12/15/2019 | PoconoPundit

Sixteen year old Gretaand of Sweden has recently been named "Person of the Year" by Time Magazine.  Here are some likely reasons why Greta was chosen as a key spokesperson for the Global Warming Movement:

  • Appealing to Emotions is Easier than Debating Science — Making a 16-year old girl (who looks no more than 13) the spokesperson for the Climate Change cause is another way the Progressives are telling us to ignore the science and "just trust" the Paris Accord globalists.

  • Greta can't be Criticized — or at least that's what the Progressives thought, saying to themselves: "When Trump goes after this child, he's toast!  We will crucify him!"

Wrong again, for Trump is willing to go where other politicians fear to tread.  And our President attacked Greta in the right way, telling her to chill, yet respecting her as a worthy — but misguided — opponent.  And so Greta is taking Trump's advice and going on a little vacation.  Bwahaha!

  • Globalists and Climate Doomsdayers are on a Losing Streak — General elections in Italy, Austria, and now the UK have the EU on the run.  Climate Hockey Stick Con-Artist Michael Mann lost his lawsuit.  There was a recent NASA study claiming the climate is cooling.  So the globalist are pulling out all stops because their movement is going downhill.

  • Next Generation Nuclear Would Obviate the Need for Drastic Climate Measures — I've been listening to Scott Adams who has been talking about new Nuclear Energy Plant designs that are much safer than traditional ones -- and even consume used uranium.  With a loosening of regulations, this development could shatter the globalist dream of growing their carbon-fighting slush fund.

Greta and her Asperger Syndrome Diagnosis

Learning about Greta on Wikipedia, I see where she was diagnosed with a disorder called Asperger syndrome:

Thunberg says she first heard about climate change in 2011, when she was 8 years old, and could not understand why so little was being done about it.  Three years later, she became depressed, lethargic, and stopped talking as well as eating, and eventually was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), and selective mutism.

Her Asperger diagnosis was made public nationwide in Sweden by her mother in May 2015, in order to help other families in a similar situation.  While acknowledging that her diagnosis "has limited me before", Greta does not view her Asperger's as an illness and has instead called it her "superpower".

For about two years, Thunberg challenged her parents to lower the family's carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment by becoming vegan, upcycling, and giving up flying.  She has said she tried showing them graphs and data, but when that didn't work, she warned her family that they were stealing her future.

The Source of Greta's "Superpower"

So what sort of "superpower" does Greta have?:

  • Is it the power of an idiot savant (Rain Man) who displays incredible memory skills?  No, Greta hasn't demonstrated anything like that.

  • Has Greta eclipsed the minds of all global scientists in her ability to predict the climate's future?  No, I doubt Gretna would make that claim -- though many of her fans may earnestly believe it!

Greta's "superpower" is nothing more than her internal vision of her mission.  Her school teachers pushed the global warming scare into her brain, and it sunk in.  And now that she's been made famous, she feels validated.

Greta's instincts are much like the snowy owl, that beautiful but odd bird species that chooses to inhabit the tundra and glaciers of northern Sweden -- and other frigid climates across the globe.

Would you or I choose to live in a forbidding climate like that?  No, nevertheless, the snowy owl has the innate intelligence and insincts to live an average of 10 years in that cruel climate.  It's an incredible gift.

Likewise, Greta — in her own mind — is gifted, but she's not someone you can reason with because she's on a personal mission driven by her inner feeeelings.

So all power to Greta in her Don Quixote quest to create more windmill farms.  Just don't tell me that an anti-social kid with a disorder should drive the public policy of the human race.

Imagination Outstrips the Powers of Observation and Reason

To close, I'm reposting an excellent climate-related comment from alloysteel made in yesterday's FR post: Anger erupts at U.N. climate summit...:

What actions by humanity will change or transform the long-range shifts in conditions of the biosphere, that cannot be adapted to in some way, shape, form or manner?

It is easy to raise cries of doom and despair, especially when not all the relevant facts are known, or are intentionally left out of the projections.

Humanity is a most extraordinary species, in that the imagination often outstrips the powers of observation and reason. And with this free-form imagination, unfettered by any logical thought patterns, whole mythologies can be built up, eventually taking on almost religious significance. Some pretty arrant nonsense gets built up, leading to a lot of errant thinking and wishful conclusions which seem somehow never to come to fruition, and are completely impractical in the real world.

The Universe is a cruel and unforgiving place. Stupidity is the one crime that never goes unpunished.

Good one sir Poco and nice graphics and thinking. I offer these as light comments/observations, not as corrections.

(imagination) ... "leading to a lot of errant thinking and wishful conclusions which seem somehow never to come to fruition, and are completely impractical in the real world."

Sadly, they often DO come to fruition, just not the intended fruit. Hence, the 100 million dead in the 20th century, and in a way worse, the 100's and 100's of millions of lives depressed, abused, disrespected an often made more miserable than had they just been killed.

"Stupidity is the one crime that never goes unpunished.

Don't leave out Good Deeds!

Thanks for tagging me - happy weekend!

You are correct but the Demons have little use for the cause, just the hysteria.

The 'Ratz will blame the cold on Man as well.

“The Universe is a cruel and unforgiving place. Stupidity is the one crime that never goes unpunished”

Unfortunately, this statement is not always entirely true.
