A new coronavirus that has claimed 17 lives in Wuhan, China, may have been transmitted to people from snakes, according to a genetic analysis. The snakes may have caught the virus from bats in the food market in which both animals were sold.
But now Scientists in China blamed the deadly coronavirus on bats — a favorite at local restaurants in Wuhan province. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses common in animals, including camels and bats.
As of 22 January, there are 555 confirmed cases of the infection, which can cause fever, difficulty breathing and pneumonia. To contain the virus, Wuhan has effectively been placed under quarantine, with public transport being temporarily closed, according to reports.
While 444 of the cases have been reported in Wuhan, others have also been confirmed in the surrounding regions of China, with 26 in Guangdong province, 14 in Beijing and 9 in Shanghai. Internationally, confirmed cases have been reported in Thailand, Japan, South Korea and the US. Hundreds more are suspected, and attempts to diagnose these cases are under way.
The source of the infection is suspected to be a food market in Wuhan that was visited by several of those first infected with the virus. The market is known to sell live wild and farmed animals, including marmots, birds, rabbits, bats and snakes.

I was born in ‘69 but my brothers and sisters grew up in the 60s and I’ve watched some shows about the 60s :)
If they had been stocked up already, they wouldn’t be needing to in such a pinch.
Honestly, foresight is so lacking these days.
People take so for granted that everything is always going to be available to them, just as it always has. It’s inconceivable to them that they system that they blindly trust will break some day and is far more fragile than they know.

We had news footage in Australia yesterday of an aircraft landing from China, it was described as the last one to leave the source of the infected city. Our employees of the health authorities were shown pointing thermostats at the arrivals as they walked through the airport.
I immediately thought, that aircraft should never have been allowed to leave China...but what do I know? Now we are importing their diseases as well as everything else...heaven help us.
The passengers that were interviewed insisted there was no danger, because they were wearing facemasks.
Australia is culling it’s 1.5 million feral camel herds because there is no water for them in the outback due to the prolonged drought. The desperate animals are destroying tanks and stock dams in their search for water.

The thermo scans are useless. The Corona virus can kill without causing a fever. That means that in some people the virus does not trigger an immune response to cause a fever.
And the health authorities KNOW this.
Yet they say the thermo-scans will detect the sick folks?
WHAT A LAUGH.

I do not trust the WHO or the leftist dominated Health Service in the USA, especially at the state level. They have refused to report the plague was detected in the homelss in San Francisco for example. Political correctness rules.
The correct response is to ban ALL travelers who are coming from China, directly or indirectly. Returning citizens need to be quarantined and have blood analysis to screen them accurately.

It might have escaped containment in a container of won ton soup. I wonder if I should avoid Panda Express buffet for a while.
The incubation period of the Corona Virus in human beings is 2 weeks.
The lack of effective screening at airports and the long incubation period guarantees that the Corona Virus will spread world wide.
The mortality rate for those hospitalized in the SARS epidemic was 18%. So far the mortality rate for those hospitalized with Corona Virus is about 3%. The virility is fairly low, UNLESS IT MUTATES as it spreads. And there is a good chance of the mutation of a far more virulent strain as it spreads.
One can only hope and pray. This will NOT be contained.
The other problem is that 5 out of 17 died of Corona Virus infection without ANY rise in body temperature. This is an indication that the immune system in some individuals did not respond to the Corona Virus. It killed without an immune response in its victims in about 30% of those infected, hospitalized and dead.

Buty I agree. China must take its seat in the world as a civilized nation. That means it must control the zoomorphic evolution of its viral genome into the human realm.
