The future envisaged by the 3% may yet condemn the 97% to death
A novel coronavirus dubbed 2019-nCoV belonging to the same family as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) has, over the last six weeks, taken China by storm, and spread to Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and now the US.
There is no need yet to turn this drama into a crisis: the mutation is nowhere near as deadly as SARS: the outbreak began at the Huanan Seafood Market in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and it took scientists only a couple of weeks to identify it, once Chinese authorities had handed over the genome sequence to the international community. So it seems highly unlikely therell be a UK soap opera called Coronavirus Street any time soon.
At the other extreme, this is not something we can rest on laurels about: calling it a novel virus is something of a giveaway, because it shows that its yet another species-derived mutation. For whereas SARS is thought to have started in cats and MERS in camels, 2019-nCoV is another leap, and probably passed on from seafood given its starting point. So what started out a decade ago as an Avian virus has, we can now suspect, been repeated on land and sea.
But really, the new Coronavirus is an alarm call for the neoliberal orthodoxy in which most of us live these days. And it is fundamentally to do with the nature of epidemiology.

That’s called manure. Used everywhere.
Bacteria eat animal waste. Plants eat bacteria waste. Animals eat and breathe plant waste. But they don’t eat their own waste.
Communism-imposed poverty will do that. Free markets are the cure.
Nobody has yet firmly establised exactly why Brussels, Merkel, Macron and Draghi took such a blasé verging on positive view of migration legal or otherwise into the European Union from Africa. But over the last three years, there has been ample evidence suggesting that the relaxed attitudes of the EUnatics had a lot to do with a desire to cut European production costs by crushing wages.
The potential consequences of that in health terms should be a matter of concern to public officials in Spain, Italy and Greece all of whom have borne the brunt of an unparalleled influx of cultural and potential public health dangers into their countries.
True, among the major supporters of open borders are corporate globalists.
Not sure how you can read “lack of worry” into what I wrote. Do you know what the Spanish Flu was? My allusion to it was to validate worry.

Stomach-churning recipe for bat soup linked to coronavirus outbreak
The recipe is a delicacy across China and in Wuhan where the virus originated and it has been linked to the deadly coronavirus which has ravaged the region
On review, you are right. Was reading in a hurry.
I equated the Spanish flu with the Black Death, so that should give you a hint of what I know about it.
“Why are they always trying to make these things sound so scary?”
This map

had 653 cases 8 hours ago, and just now 881.
DESPITE the quarantines.
Thats 227/653 = ~34% increase in cases in 8 hours.
And dead from 18 to 26 > and 44% increase in deaths.
Death rate had been 18/663=2.75%, now 26/881=2.95%
Death rate is slowing increasing: not sure if that is random fluctuation, but it is not _improving_.
Im thinking with that kind of snapshot, horse is not only out of the barn, but having little colds (colts) all over the pasture.

Ooh, my little sniffling one, my sniffling one
When you gonna give me some time, Corona
Ooh, you make my nose run, my nose run
Got it coming down the line, Corona
Never gonna stop, fevered up, such a germy mind
I always get it up, for the touch of thenfected kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Corona
Come a little closer, huh, a-will ya, huh?
Close enough to infect my eyes, Corona
Transmissions a mystery, it gets to me
Running down the length of my mask, Corona
Never gonna stop, fevered up, such a germy mind
I always get it up, for the touch of thenfected kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Corona
M-m-m-my Corona
When you gonna give to me, kerchief to me
Is it just a matter of time, Corona?
Is it d-d-destiny, d-destiny
Or is it just a game

China building a hospital to treat virus, expands lockdowns
For something nobody heard of a week ago, 23 million people on lockdown.
Just clickbait, right?
(Bloomberg) -- Chinas new deadly virus is more difficult to contain than other pandemics because those infected may not get a fever, a symptom governments around the world are using to screen for the pathogen.
I mentally put the emphasis on “and clicks” when I read your post #7.
I can see how you might have meant, “...but in the meantime, ‘and clicks.’ “
You aren’t the only one, so I could have been more clear. :) Regardless, it is very concerning, especially because China is in no way trustworthy.
