The nation’s blue state governors seem to be far more enthusiastic about lockdowns than their red state counterparts, perhaps because they recognize that the small businesses being driven toward extinction are a key component of the GOP base. But if their motives are so ruthless, perhaps they need to reckon with the damage being done to the key propaganda organs of the left: progressive media, higher education, and government schools...Yes, the pain from the lockdown is devastating for many people, and many businesses may never re-open. But enrepreneurs are entrprenuerial, and that means that new businesses will start up, replacing and in some ways improving on the old, vanished businessses. (I don't minimize the huge cost to those banrupted by the lockdown.) But the organs of the left are far less dynamic and flexible. Especially those that are run by governments.
The post-pandemic landscape will look different, that much is certain. I am far from convinced that it will favor the left.

They think they're hurting the GOP? Heck, small biz is also a key component of their own state and local tax bases. Oh well, there's a phrase, a proverb, out there called "cut off your nose to spite your face". That's how they roll, they're so full of rage they can't even discern what they are doing to themselves.
I hope this is the final divorce between the working man and the democrat party. If so, the demographics will be forever changed against them.

The only people who could even POTENTIALLY benefit from this thing are anti-Trump people who want this to be a huge disaster that pushes Trump out of the White House.
But that isn’t going to happen.
Which means this disaster has only losers and no winners. And the people who suffer from this are going to see that the Democrats handled this far worse than the Republicans. November isn’t that far away. People will remember.
I’m going to disagree with the author on the point that there’s going to be any serious move to homeschooling after this.
And I speak as one half of a couple who homeschooled a child.
First off the number of parents were not involved in their kids and then number of parents who want public schools for daycare and free meals constitutes a majority of the kids in public school, in my opinion. And then add to that of course to special-needs kids.
When we home-schooled we did the math and the math said that a working mother and the cost of child care and other factors make the working mother proposition not nearly as economical as it appears on the surface. I won’t even go into all the details, but you can trust me on that one. Most families with two working parents can’t factor all that in and think that they’re really coming out ahead economically. Yes we made some economic sacrifices but nothing to the degree that people think they’re going to make with one income.
And of course isn’t some economic sacrifice worth it for the well-being of your child?
Anyway, we will see how this all plays out. I am very skeptical that we’re going to see any measurable shift into homeschooling. I would love to see it, though.
If there is consumer demand, small business will revive to meet it. The dems have no clue how close to the cliff family businesses operate.
Blue state governors smell fed money they will pull every pity string to get it.

I’m wondering how many organs of the left are on life support. Bankrupt but getting an infusion of money from some rich America-hating leftist so they can keep printing their propaganda.
I can speak a little bit (second hand of course) anecdotally about some shifts that started before the plandemic but sped up.
My best friend who is a reading teacher in a large well-respected district in Colorado Springs has had 17 of her 120 students disenroll to start homeschool next year. And 4 teachers leaving (out of 72) to teach with an online corporation.
I think the parents who may have been on the fence whether it be financially or their own self doubts over homeschool will take the leap.
Several large area public HS had just begun to roll out online for their juniors and seniors because the students/parents could no longer see the benefit of wasted time in the physical building.
I agree with you and the article of how public school is used for day care and the less involved parents.
If the democratically state run government within the state of CO modifies any part of the public school, it will be the big push for those holding out to flee.
One of the good consequences, another being the decline of public education. Homeschool!
One thing we can bet on. *If* there is a movement into homeschooling that begins to affect the pocketbooks of the teachers (i.e. the unions) and the schools, we will see a more concerted and obvious push by the leftists in government to harass and hinder homeschooling. Even criminalize it.
They aren’t giving up the gravy train and their ability to indoctrinate children without a fight.
You’re absolutely correct! Their narrative of “socialization” issues with homeschool kids has worked for a while, but is proving to be false, and parents are seeing it.
They have exposed themselves (to those who didn’t see it before) as having an inferior product, and they are unable to compete on an open market. Thus will do all they can to shut the competition down
