Homeschooling is interesting. It is hard, but it is worth it. If one of your children is into naval architect, you can get books on it, while another could be interested in dinosaurs, so you can get him (or her) books on dinosaurs.

It doesn’t take “smarts” to teach your kids, like any teacher, you need preparation in order to teach the “next” lesson.

We homeschooled and in areas we felt we were weak, we hired a tutor for that subject.

Also, many states offer what’s called Dual Credit. Basically, the child can take classes at the Community College, for free, and they count toward their High School Diploma and their AA from the Community College.

I made it through Alg. II using a great math series of Saxon. Schooling through their Alg. II level usually prepares the kid to pass the test to take College Algebra at the CC. So all higher maths, for us, were taught at the CC.

Also, added advantages, AA is obtained free, and gives them a 2 year jump in the time it takes to finish their last 2 years of their Bachelor’s program, and if they go on to need a Graduate degree for their profession, they finish at the same time their peers are finishing their Bachelors. It’s a lot easier on the student to get Graduate studies out of the way before the wife and kids come into the picture. Plus many Graduate classes can be taken online.

This was many moons ago, but now they have math teaching DVDs from wonderful math teachers, and many use those now.

Lol, dinosaurs. That’s the reason for having public schools. School libraries are currently well-stocked (for him, her, and it).

I learned to love the jews, and hate Islam there. Islam is killing not only Jews, but is killing the souls of the Arabs.

I was only in Israel for 10 days and came to the same conclusion. We were able to tour some of Gaza and the Golan Heights and the West Bank (and ate lunch in Bethlehem and met one of the last remaining Arab Christians it seems). It was shocking how the garbage piled up in "Palestine" with dogs chained up in the heat and then when crossing back into the Israeli territory it was like re-entering civilization.

And barbed wire everywhere: "the national flower of Israel," said our (very funny) Jewish tour guide.

You give the public schools way too much credit for ability and desire to teach the children.

Parents who love and care for their and friends children can accomplish way more thanks to readily accessible internet materials.

I wish we would have home schooled, but the need for teenage daycare and my ex-wife’s career were more important. The best argument my ex had for stuffing our kids in a public school was: they get socialized better there. Home schooled kids lack the peer interactions and cant function well later in life. LOL

There are many interests at work in US public schools: publishing companies that also pushed for much of the standardised testing, political (no child left behind, gun free zones...), lawyers, unions, the schools that have their agenda, various programs in the schools... Everyone has an agenda, but only a few even have any educational merit. Most parents are oblivious / apathetic to their child’s education. They just want cheap all day child care and get offended occasionally when they see a chance to get attention or stand up for a punk they see as holy. Yes, you can accomplish the same results in 1/3 or even less the time as crazy as that sounds. MOST of public school time is ritualized bullshit.

Here’s a thought: schools pack 30 or as much as 35 kids to one teacher in high school. The schools get ~$7,000 per kid per year. That’s $210,000 per teacher who in Texas may earn $50k. Where does the rest go? Why does one high school have three principals, counselors for college, but also for LGBT matters in some places, deans, department heads, curriculum writers, someone with the sole purpose to make reports...

$70 million dollar football stadiums. That’s what US public schools are known for, not academics.

Yep! It’s the Education-Industrial-Complex.

Hey! Even my dentist and his 5 employees depend on government schools for the dental insurance the school employees bring into his office.

The complex is wide and deep.

My beautician has decided to do this, as have the mothers who work in the shop she owns. They had been connsidering this since home imprisonment began because the kids were doing so well. Then they learned that masks may be mandatory at school. That was the last straw.

They are adjusting shop hours and stylists’ hours so they can cover for each other, and allow time for schooling and work.
