Birdwatcher Christian Cooper calls for more cops in Central Park
New York Post ^ | June 20, 2020 | Sara Dorn

The black birdwatcher falsely accused of threatening a white dog walker wants more police in Central Park.

Christian Cooper, who clashed with Amy Cooper over Memorial Day weekend because her pooch was running loose, is backing an Upper West Side community board proposal that calls on the Central Park cops and Park Enforcement Patrol to do a better job of enforcing dog regulations, including the leash requirement.

Christian Cooper and other supporters told Community Board 7’s Parks & Environment Committee that the resolution addresses a longstanding feud between birders and dog-walkers in Central Park — one that morphed into an international example of racism when he videotaped Amy Cooper calling the NYPD after he asked her to leash her dog.

I wonder if his beliefs about more police being needed are consistent across the board.

People with a bird watching obsession can be odd, but there are people out there with weirder and worse- downright evil- obsessions.

Ah, the fact that he’s black and wants police anywhere is good news these days :-)

My mother’s family are big birders and there are a few in the extended family that are odd ducks. I am the back sheep because I shoot every game bird that I can legally.

Anybody who is willing to live in a crowded metro area is odd in some way. Having that many of them in a crowded space is a recipe for disaster.

And he said he was going to give the woman's dog "a treat" if she did not put the dog on a leash. That can be construed as a threat, especially another odd person in a crowded metro area. He's lucky that there wasn't a cop right there when the incident happened; a bad reaction by any of the people involved could have turned into another series of "mostly peaceful" protests.

Bird watchers and dog walkers. What a weird grouping to be at odds with each other. I found it odd that there are still black men who are still afraid of tame, fun loving, happy doggies. Maybe there needs to be sensitivity training for black men who are scarred of nice fluffy fur dogs. Show the black men that a nice doggie is just a friend and not a threat. A large German Shepard Police Dog would probably not be useful for that purpose. Just some nice Golden Retrievers would fit the bill.

lol...now that you mention it!

I am better at finding game birds than most of the birders in my family.

I can’t imagine climbing out of bed at 5AM on a rainy November morning to go watch birds. But to hunt them? Sure.

Wait...what? With all that’s going on in NYC...this is what he wants focus on? Self-absorbed much?

Black liberal man living in Manhattan wants the armed agents if the government (cops) to enforce leash laws.

When said leash law violators manage to disobey the police enough to get themselves arrested....and then resist arrest which requires force to be used on the leash scofflaw.....will the black liberal man from Manhattan say

“Thank you officers for enforcing that important law! I appreciate you fighting with that leash scofflaw, scuffing them up or worse, to get them to jail so us birdwatchers can listen to the rarely heard sounds of the marbled pipsqueek’s mating call.”

Or with said black liberal Manhattan dweller turn on the cops who were told to enforce this “quality if life” law when video emerges of them fighting with the leash law scofflaw who refuses to go to jail?

I think we all saw this before and the dead guy’s name was Eric Garner who died because liberals in power could not stand a black man cheating them out of supposedly owed tax revenue from selling single cigarettes on the sidewalk so they ordered the police to arrest the black man cheating them out of tax revenue.

Duty bound cops try to arrest Eric Garner and he resists, dies from being a fat ass with heart ailments.....and guess who they blame?

No, not their stupid laws.

More of the stupid tendency to pile a bunch of BS “enforcement” ideas on the backs of the cops. Let the SPCA work it out, and don’t call the cops if things go south.

It doesn’t matter. Every New Yorker knows Central Park is incredibly large. They couldn’t send enough cops to protect the whole place.

And there likely won’t be cops soon in New York anyway so it won’t matter :-)

Myself and my neighborhood will still be fine.
