A Push in States to Fight Campus Intolerance With 'Intellectual Diversity' Laws
Real Clear Investigations ^ | June 30, 2020 | Mark Hemingway

After leaving Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash., in 2017 amid a clash with woke activists, progressive academic Bret Weinstein has often felt like a lonely voice on the left warning about the dangers of campus intolerance and unrest spilling out into the real world.

But now, with "cancel culture" on the rise as protesters nationwide tear down statues in the aftermath of the police killing of George Floyd, the biologist says he feels an uneasy sense of vindication -- and the tide turning.

“I’ve started to get calls in the last week or two – the people who mocked me and others … for making too much of what appeared to be college kids going wild on college campuses,” he said on the Joe Rogan podcast on June 18. “Some of them have started to call and say: ‘I got it wrong. What do we do now?’”

It turns out that a quiet counterrevolution is already underway.

In March of last year, President Trump issued an executive order making federal research funding contingent on universities having adequate free speech protections...

South Dakota has already done so, and the law’s requirements amount to the most sweeping campus reforms in the country. It was triggered last year by a minor controversy over the stifling of a planned “Hawaiian Day” on one campus...

Under intellectual diversity laws, not only must dissenting views be tolerated, but college administrations are required to actively take steps (yet to be specified) to ensure that students are exposed to competing cultural and political viewpoints.

I’d vote for Kristi Noem for US President in a heartbeat.

This probably won’t work, but neither should the stifling of 1st Amendment protected political speech, as law should never dictate content of free speech.

They have to do something, perhaps allow lawsuits against educational institutions that promote the suppression of Constitutional rights? Then sue them down to their Birkenstocks!

It’s about time. This single view anti-white narrative that is almost universal on campuses abut also across our whole education system needs to not only stop but needs a dagger to its heart.

Someone I read suggested that since universities and colleges are accepting and hiring people with only one view and teaching only , the socialist/marxists views, they should be taxed and denied their”educational non taxes) since they are not educating students to know both/ all sides of issues. and even forcing tout he few conservative professors by firing them.

State governments need to pass laws and regulations requiring diversity on campus.

Diversity of thought. Among the faculty.

What that means in practical terms is that leftists need not apply for any university position for a long long time. Only Republicans Gun owners - bonus points if they’re gun rights activists - Committed Christians and Orthodox Jews, etc. More of them need to be graduates of state schools and much fewer of the should be Ivy League grads. Far more of them need to be Southerners and Midwesterners and non Left Coast Westerners rather than Northeasterners.

Students need to be exposed to differing points of view. Learning to weigh the evidence and make up their own minds...a marketplace of ideas needs to be explicitly stated to be at the core of the college experience.

I’m sure the Left will be all in favor of diversity. :^)
