Well, there either is the rule of law, or there is chaos.
Chaos in the form of vigilantism, tribalism with warlords and militias, survival of the fittest.
Chaos is untenable in the long run, so you might get a splintering of the country like it happened in yougoslavia or the ussr, or you end up with the strongest warlord ruling the whole country. Kinda back to the future. It’s happened many times in the past.
I am reminded of the op-ed Henry Kissinger had back in April. Yes, that old evil fool is still around kicking and seems to be pulling strings.

If riots become a so-called “normal part of life”, the country learns in a hurry that the only two options available are (1) stand up, or (2) bend over.
In that event, logic would seem to indicate that either (1) the rioters are “dealt with” in the only way that will bring a permanent solution to the problem, or (2) the rioters will kill us all.
