COVID-19 Lockdowns Lead to a Failure to Thrive
American Greatness ^ | November 19, 2020 | Julie Kelly

There once was a time, like any other time before the year 2020, when people would have been ashamed to openly boast about abandoning their aging parents during the holidays.

But broadcasting plans to ditch ailing mothers and fathers for Thanksgiving is the latest in COVID-19 fashion. Thanks to more heartless, cruel guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and outlandish orders issued by tyrannical governors of both political parties, families are planning to forego holiday traditions to avoid infecting each other with the virus.

“I already canceled Thanksgiving and Christmas with my 91-year-old mother because I DON’T WANT TO KILL HER,” left-wing pundit John Aravosis declared on Twitter. Dozens of his followers chimed in to announce similar plans.

Arne Duncan, Barack Obama’s education secretary, after disclosing he and his family had contracted coronavirus despite following all the rules since the start, said he had not seen his 85-year-old mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, since last spring. “I’ve been able to do almost nothing with her for six months,” Duncan admitted on CNN. “But there’s nothing worse than having the people you care about contract this virus.”

That is, of course, a preposterous statement. It would be easy to name dozens if not hundreds of “worse” things that could happen to a loved one; for example, slowly withering away in a long-term care facility, isolated from family, desperate for human touch and interaction. But that is exactly what’s happening across the country as most states continue to impose harsh restrictions for nursing home visits. The most prosperous country in the world is allowing its most vulnerable citizens—men and women who defended and built America—to die of Third World causes including “failure to thrive,” a common ailment among children in impoverished nations...

“Yeah, and Covid -19 leads to a failur [sic] to live.”

Well, except for 99.8% or so.

The old people want to see family. Zoom doesn’t hack it. A call from a “call the old folks” service won’t do it. There are worse things than getting the virus from a family visit.

we're having Thanksgiving here...91 yro mil was supposed to come, ride provided....now she's afraid to "give" the virus to anybody....?????

what happened is she talked to her other son in Portland area and they are sooo afraid down there they aren't having anybody over so he encouraged my mil NOT to attend our function...because afterall, a grandson might not have been wearing his mask this week....

my bil in oregone NEVER has people over, they don't socialize and have no real friends so its nothing for them to be home without family....

I mean, how many more Thanksgivings does my mil have?....

If your elderly parents or relative is actually this important to you, have your family quarantine for two weeks and arrange testing before Thanksgiving.

We’ve actually run into the opposite sentiment. My children’s last surviving great-grandparent nearly had a heart attack being in total lockdown in the nursing home after having gone to the hospital for a suspected heart attack. He had negative covid tests, but he was isolated to his room for two weeks, not even seeing the person leaving him cold meals. He talked to family and a grandchild picked him up and took him to one of his son’s homes. He arguably had PTSD and was definitely having war flash backs and anxiety.

He has since visited several adult children and grandchildren. He sat on the couch with his oldest grand daughter and my kids, mask-free. The kids asked him about that. He said he was 90+, might have died, and might die of the disease, but he’d be damned if he went back into solitary confinement for several more weeks to ease the nursing home’s liability. (They’d put everyone in de facto isolation for a month early in the outbreak and then had a series of weird, changing rules.)

Agreed. We put a disabled, medically fragile family member in another relative’s two-seater sports car. They went on a long drive and stopped to visit their son and their grandkids. She got more out of a socially distanced in-person chat with the grandkids than 3 zoom calls and half a dozen phone calls.

Meanwhile the horrid liberal Mother of my ex is determined to celebrate with her neighbors. She is a virtue signalling type and spent more time with poc neighbors than her own extended family.
Such hypocrites.
