Sometimes, at the card table, an experienced poker player can read an opponent's hand by means of a "tell." Some players give obvious visual clues as to whether or not they are bluffing or holding good cards.
In 2012, I recall David Axelrod, a Red Diaper Baby, and faux journalist who became a political operative and campaign manager, use the phrase "The cake is baked" to describe the likely outcome of the presidential election between Obama and Romney.
In 2020, several leftist activists such as George Clooney and George Conway have used the same words.
I have interpreted "the cake is baked" to mean the "fix" is in. Ballot boxes have been stuffed, election counters have been hacked, and the vote totals have been massaged.
